  • Crossbow care and maintenance?

I got a Parker Concorde in the mail yesterday from a certain member lol, now what do I need to care and maintain it? Where and how much wax do you use? I know you never want to dry fire them. Anything else???
www.AvidArms.com I'm STIHL out of conditioner!!

Am I short stroking or going to fast?

I know he has a bush

Your Concorde has an anti-dry fire feature. No you shouldn't "try it out". LOL Proper care is essential with ALL crossbows. You need to wax the string and cables every 5-10 shots. Keep the rail lubed as well every 5-10 shots. Don't worry about putting the wax on the serving part of the string/cables. You don't need to worry about wax where the cable/string go around the cams. The string is waxed under the serving. Now, with that said, you DO need to wax the serving in the middle of the string where the bolt is as that rides on the rail. (Also referred to as the barrel) You only need to make sure that the wax is evenly applied. You don't need to go hog wild with it. Just a nice coating where you can feel the string and cables are "slick". Too much wax is not good, too little is the same. Just coated is all. Basically, looking things over and making sure there is no debris in the barrel or the cams will assure that things stay on the up and up. With the Concorde, there is one thing you will have to maintain and watch for that no other crossbow will require ..... the O-Rings on the bottle. Hahahaha. I think there were some extras in one of the boxes for you. Alittle tiny bit of silicone on them will go along way. Much like maintaining them for paintball. That's about all there is really. Keep it clean, make sure the cables and string are waxed, be sure to look them over once in awhile for excessive wear and other that that .... enjoy using the first automatic cocking/de-cocking crossbow!!! If you notice the string or cables getting a "fuzzy" look to them, it's time for a new set to be installed. Depending on how much you shoot it will determine how long that would be. Enjoy it man!!

Thank you so much! Yes it did come with about 10 to 15 extra o rings. Now I just need to learn the nomenclature to take advantage of all your great advice! How tough to restring it when it needs to be down?

I'm 100% dead serious. If you'd care to put your hand in the path of the string or cables when he pulls the trigger, you MIGHT understand just how much force is present. (You'll probably have a few less digits or a complete hand missing) Ever smell a string or cable burn after the shot?? I have the pleasure of smelling that at the shop when testing bows and crossbows that I've either assembled or repaired or even just setup. Since most crossbows are 150lbs+ and I smell it from bows at 73lbs, yes, I'm serious. Like I said though, it doesn't need to be loaded on. Just a good even application is all. The rail absolutely needs to be lubed to rid the bolt and string of heat from friction. Now, if he finds that the wax he is using appears to stay on the string and cables fairly well, then he could move the waxing to 15-20 shots. The wax I'm sending him is what I personally use and he will be able to go around 30 shots before having to re-apply that particular wax. The wax that I'm sending him is 100% synthetic and very little is needed to coat the string/cables. It goes on VERY easily. There are different waxes out there and when I refer to the 5-10 shot rule, I'm referring to the most basic of waxes being used such as the cheap Allen crap one can find at Walmart.

It will need to be performed at an archery shop. The limbs need to be compressed, the tension on the string/cables relieved, and then removed. New ones can then be installed and the limbs can be relieved of the pressure and the tension returned to the string and cables. In other words, you ain't doing that at home without an approved bow press. LOL We recommend that, as a preventative maintenance, the string and cables be replaced every year. The string and cables on usmc's crossbow were replaced in August of 2015.
