  • Youth Archery Bows

Both daughters got their archery merit badge. Grandpa hooked my oldest up with a Bear odyssey compound bow that has a huge adjustment range. I got it adjusted for her and bought her a junior release. She seems to be enjoying archery so far. She also insists on wearing a lot of pink to the archery range.

I'm trying to get a feel for my middle child's interest in archery and the only other now I have for her is one of the really cheap Bear Brave kids bows. I'm going to see how she shoots with it in the back yard. I'm hoping it is enough to get her interested, but I'm nervous she's going to get frustrated with it since it's so basic and she tends to get competitive with her older sister.

If anyone has a used bow that could be adjusted down to fit a 9 year old, I might be interested.

That's awesome to hear about your daughters earning their archery merit badges! It sounds like your oldest is really getting into it with her new compound bow, especially with all that pink gear. As for your middle child, starting with a basic bow like the Bear Brave is a good idea to gauge her interest without breaking the bank. It's natural to feel nervous about her getting frustrated, but remember, it's all about having fun and learning. And hey, if you're looking for a used bow for her, reaching out to local archery clubs or online forums might turn up some options that can be adjusted to fit her.

So I'm no longer lacking in bows at this point.

i picked up a used PSE Guide kids bow from a Facebook listing. I've gotten that set up with a D loop and some sights. So the younger two kids had been using that. Now my dad picked up a used Diamond Aromic that I'm going to set up for the middle child and the PSE Guide will be for the youngest.

I also got served an ad for a Bear Limitkess youth bow on sale for $107. Full retail price was $260. I looked into it and for $107 it looked like a good deal compared to everything else anywhere near that price point so I bought one. The rear peep isn't a style I like, so I'm going to get that swapped out, but other than that the bow seems decent.

So now I'm getting the oldest set up on the Limitless, and setting up the bow the oldest child was using so that my wife can use it.

There's rumblings that the gun club might try to get a more formal youth archery program going, so if that happens I'll try to get the kids involved.

Grandpa found a used Diamond Atomic bow for the middle child. After some online research, I got it adjusted and the middle child tried it and liked it last night.

I'm impressed with that little bow. Adjustable in half inch increments, and lots of pull weight range. looks like a toy because it's so tiny and light, but sends the arrows with authority.

Congratulations on your daughters' archery merit badge! It sounds like your oldest is having a great time with her new bow.

For your younger daughter, it's a smart idea to start with a bow that's comfortable for her size. While the Bear Brave might be a good starting point to gauge her interest, a used adjustable bow might be a better long-term option if she gets hooked. This would allow you to adjust the draw weight and length as she grows, preventing frustration and keeping the learning process enjoyable.

Consider mentioning the size and draw weight range you're looking for in a used bow in your comment. Other parents or archers might have something suitable they'd be willing to part with!
