  • Favorite hiking places?

Anybody have any favorite places to go hiking? I really like high peaks when I get a chance to go there even though it kills me lol.

Don't know where exactly you are located. But my better half and I go hiking in Sams Point preserve just outside of Ellenville. A good number of hiking trails up there. From intermediate to pretty tough. But the views are just great.

Sam's Point is great. Do you remember the days of the Ice Caves Mt?

Not much of a hiker or a traveler (2 words INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT) but I love the pictures.

I definitely do.The Ice Caves are still available to the public. Sams Point is State run now and you can walk the path through the caves. We do it a few times a year since the kids (who are pushing 20 yrs of age) still like to take that hike.

Do you remember the wall around the Sams Point ledge that kept you from falling off? Well the state took the wall down a few yrs back as they felt it lends to a more natural look. Talked to a park ranger and he said that they warn the folks to not go near the edge and hope for the best.

Was up there a few weeks back. We sat on the ledge and watched about 6 bald eagles just riding the warm air currents maybe 50 feet above us.

I haven't been there in close to 25 years. My kids were my hiking partners back then. Lots of great memories. I'll have to start taking the grandson when he's a bit older. Thanks for the 411

Alistar, thanks but it has to be local trails in Lower Hudson Valley. Catskills and Adirondacks are no go.
