  • Need a headlamp

Need a headlamp and have been looking but not sure which one to get . anyone recommend any?

Any special considerations I should consider? Brands to look at or stay away from?

We use the Black Diamond Revolt. It comes with standard and rechargeable batteries. Can recharge via USB. Has power meter so you know if batteries need charging. Low, high, strobe, and red light settings. Has lock mode so it can't be accidentally turned on in a backpack. I did a lot of research before buying, and have been real happy with them so far. http://gearx.com/black-diamond-revolt-headlamp-2 Watch for sales, especially with Christmas coming up. I got two of them, and I think I paid $39 each with free shipping.

I have a really nice $50 one, forget the brand.

Mostly I use the $15 eveready ones I get at big orange. For the amount of time I use them, they suit my needs wonderfully.

I have one of those from Gander that takes AA batteries. I like anything that takes those batteries.
          It works.

How comfortable are they wearing on head and what is typical run time?

Wearing is fine they are light. I don't know run time. I guess it depends on the power setting and battery.
I now only use lithium batteries and still is the original after a few years but I don't use the flash light longer than 1hr at the time.
I would not be surprised if it runs for a couple of days in the low setting.

I see they do not sell the one I have but I also have this one that is very similar....

Overall I am very happy wtih the rayovac flash lights with AA batteries. I bought rayovac after I read a review in the consumer reports where they compared
with other flashlights including surefire and the rayovac they drop them in the wather and ran them over wiht a car and they still work.

BTW don't buy the surefire system. Instead of that one could buy a kevlar helmet and put a picatiny mount for the flashlight. ..and still it will be cheaper!! LOL
