If anyone is interested, there are smartphone apps for studying/practice exams. Seems like a pretty cool way to study. I've taken 6-8 exams this weekend.

For those members in northern NY, there's an upcoming hamfest in South Burlington, VT on February 28th. They'll be giving exams at the hamfest, and it offers you a chance to see a variety of equipment and possibly make some purchases. More details are available from the ARRL or the February, 2015, issue of QST magazine.

If at all possible I recommend trying to get the tech and general license when you go take the test for the first time. If your an over achiever then go for all 3.

For those located near Saranac Lake, an free entry level class is going to be given on March 7th and 14th at the Adirondack Medical Center, from 8 am until 4 pm. Supposedly at the end of the class you'll be prepared for the Technician Class exam. Here's a link from a newspaper regarding the class: http://www.pressrepublican.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor-feb/article_0fec1d64-a190-55fb-acba-3f714207d3ca.html This past Saturday I went to the Burlington, Vt hamfest and had a pretty good time. They had some forums including a class on building high performance long wire antennas and also a class on digital voice equipment, i.e., Dstar and DMR. A good friend took the test for the technician license and passed, he says he only studied about 6 hours total.
The hamfest season really kicks off in May with the NEARfest in Deerfield, NH. This year admission is free, and the event is on May 1st and 2nd. For the folks out in the western part of the state, there's the Rochester Hamfest, held on June 6th at the Barnard Firemen's Field in Greece. The hamfest is an electronics flea market with new and used equipment, and they also offer amateur radio operator exams.
