  • HAM Radio, CHIRP and Baofeng

    Baofeng UV-5RA.
I successfully have CHIRP connected, updating frequencies with local first responder frequencies, all good deals.
Now, I did notice the first 20 memory slots are already populated with settings, but not sure if they are from the Baofeng or Chirp, and what are they?

    Any insight?

Did you download from radio first or were those 20 there from start? I can't say for sure what the ones you are saying are but you can delete those and rewrite over them with what you want. It won't effect anything and I have all mine programmed.

Also if you get an error trying to program radio and you didn't download from radio and write over that file before uploading then that could be the issue.

Baofeng preloads a few test frequencies. They check to make sure the memory is functioning, check deviation and power output. While you're programming, you can also load FRS and GMRS channels for "monitoring" purposes, since you can't legally transmit with the basic Baofengs on FRS and GMRS frequencies.

I'm not an RTFM guy, more of a "I'll figure it out as I go" type.
I'll overwrite them, just wasn't sure were they originated from
My county 1st responders, and all surrounding counties are in there now.
