I believe we could be looking at quite a large swing, to the tune of many years due to improper storage.
Regardless of storage and expiration, you hit the nail on the head regarding the pharma's revealing what the true 'lifespan' of their meds are. I'd say it is slim to none. They would stand to lose mega billions if that info ever leaked.
