Great post celt. I'm at square one here. Any idea where parts 2 through 4 of the article series are? Couldn't find them after a quick search.

Do you even know when you do or don't need and antibotic? Do you know hat your growing, there for which antibiotic you need, do you know what your allergic to and what else down the chain you may be allergic to, do you know the shelf live of the antibiotic you have, do you know you can make things a whole lot worse with the wring antibiotic? do you knwo certain antiboiotics can put you into organ failure and certain ones are toxic with the wrong or prolonged does, do you know how long you need to be on certain antibotics, do you know you can get a secondary infection from antibotic use??? I work with antibiotics every day and I am constantly referring tot he Pharm D to double check whom often has to turn to one of the available information resources to make sure we aren't give teh wrong drug, dose, etc... Don't **** with something you know almost nothing about. I know far mor ethan the average nurse about antibiotics and what to use and not use and i still won't do it.

As long as you buy the correct antibiotics there is no difference. A lot of them are made on same lines and have exact same pill markings which means they are the same pill. They even sell them in people doses.... So they know what they are doing.

On a side note when getting antibiotic ointment only get the single and not triple antibiotic.

reason being some people are allergic to the triple and it could make the wound look infected when it really isn't. The single antibiotic works just as well with a much less chance of a reaction.

Evil, as celt stated, this is solely for the purpose of TEOTWAWKI situations. If you no longer have the 'luxury' of going to a health care professional and an infection or other antibiotic requiring malady arises, I'd be more than willing to put myself and those in my charge out there to be the guinea pig to possibly save our lives. There are great medical books to at least provide the basics for understanding the why's, when's, which, etc of antibiotic's. Are these books the end all for the need for a medical degree? Hell no. However, if I can't get a doctor because of a social/economic/terrorist meltdown, you can bet your ass I'll take some time to read the basics and administer care when needed.

One more thing, SLEP has proven that pills and capsules do not have a 'drop dead date' for their expiration as the pharmaceuticals would have us believe. Some meds are still 100% effective 2-10 years after the stated exp date. This info is not applicable to liquid meds, just the pill and capsule form.
