  • 'Historic' storm prep

Taking this 'historic' storm claim with a grain of salt, but I did move my stored gas can gas into my cars and replaced it with fresh gas. I ran the genny for 5 minutes. Picked up a few cases of bottled water. Loaded the fridge. I think we're set if this storm does level us.

Anyone else do anything to specifically prep for this one?

I don't have to do anything since I am not really in its path at all but don't forget it cold outside so if you need to conserve power putting your still outside or at least putting 2 liter bottles of water outside to freeze and then place in fridge can save you power.

Do you have enough canned food? If your stove won't work without power do any of you have a old camping stove to use in a pinch?

If you lose heat you can put up blankets to compartmentalize parts of house to try and keep as much heat in as possible. Also you may want to run faucets slightly so they don't freeze depending on temps.

Those off us in the southern tier (Orange, Rockland, etc) are expecting 24"-30" with blizzard conditions starting at about 1pm Monday through Tuesday.

Good luck down there. Stay safe. From the sounds of it, this one looks like it's gonna hit.

Damnit, we're getting boned again up here. Only supposed to get 3-5" I think.

Got my tractor running and out of the back yard, which was pretty scary coming up snow covered hill. Took my time and didn't have any problems but wasn't thrilled about the idea of rolling my tractor. I have a snowblower for the tractor which needs a part so I'm sticking with the walk behind. I also have a plow for it. I left the front loader on for this one though, lol. My walk behind is a commercial unit and should be able to handle whatever we get, but I wanted the tractor "just in case"...

I'm not going to get much snow here in Rochester, but I'm good to go:

                  - 0-DegreeF Mummy Sleeping Bag
                  - Alcohol Stove, Canister Stove, and Butane Stove (enough fuel to cook until the cows come home to be slaughtered and sent back out to market).
                  - Mr. Buddy Heater with 12x 1-lb Canisters and about 18lbs in the bbq grills tank as well for heat (easily heats up my entire 850sq ft. apt., and is good for about 9-10 days of 65F temps to be comfy).
                  - Two+ Months of Canned Goods in Pantry
                  - Two Pounds of Beef Jerky Vacuum Packed
                  - Three UPS supplies to keep on gaming on the internet with my pc's, netbook, or tablets for a few days while keeping the router and cable modem powered up and active.

**** it, if I ever get snowed in and run out of food I'll just eat the stupid dog. My biggest fear is running out of booze. Good luck to you guys closer to the coast, stay safe.

                    I get a boner.

Yeah I'm in that southern ulster strip of possibly 30" plus of snow... Let it snow. House runs off of solar and have a gas generator for backup... Woodstove and I'm always prepped for whatever comes.

I'm in the 8 to 16 inch range, at least for now. No big deal. It'll just be a pain in the ass for me.

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

If the door is open you won't be able to know if it is on. Just keep the door open and stick your head inside to find out.
