  • Farraday Cage Ideas?

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to make small lightweight farraday cage for cell phone or other small electronics to put in bug out bag? I have extra phone and thought it might be a good idea to load all my guides (survival, first aid, ect) on it and leave in pack (charge battery once a month or so).

The closest I've seen so far is the Shieldsak, which is made by Loksak. The Shieldsak is RF proof, but I'm not sure that it would qualify as EMP protection by itself. However as we know EMP protection is basically a 'farraday cage' inside another 'farraday cage', with an air gap between the two cages.

This item might work if doubled up with a larger Shieldsak if the two sacks were held apart by a non-conductive material around the first container. Or you could use a metal matchbook container, and put the Shieldsak (with your cellphone inside it) inside the metal matchbook container after wrapping it with a non-conductive material like a old cotton sock/shirt.

For electronics that aren't used frequently, I place them in a ziplock bag, then wrap them with multiple layers of aluminum foil, and then place them in another ziplock bag. For items that are used frequently, I use ziplock anti-static bags, also known as ESD bags, which are essentially ziplock bags made out of mylar. I've also used small tin boxes as enclosures, after placing the electronics in a ziplock bags. For VHF/UHF radios, having the antenna off will greatly reduce the possibility of inducing a large enough charge to damage the radio. I've heard rumors of gym bag type faraday bags, but haven't actually seen one.
