  • HF antenna ideas?

My old wire antenna got destroyed. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or ideas for a new antenna? I usually like to operate on 20 or 40 meters so something that works decent on multiple bands would be nice so I don't have to change them out.

I'm thinking maybe end fed like this? That way I don't have to have a counterpoise and should be pretty easy to set up.

Dipoles are always great but unfortunately I have above ground power lines so I can't really string one up across yard over it.

How about a Pepsi (or beer) can antenna?

You can use beer bottles for insulators, LOL...

that software I posted which I think is free let's you even see better where signals are coming from.

I've been researching and looks like if you get one we probably want to operate on 40 meters. May have to use NVIS set up..... Antenna closer to ground so we can talk.

Also look into field days for amateur radio..... Could be real cool thing for the scouts.

Yeah, I was looking into Radio Merit badge and other things for scouts. Maybe get them to take tech license? Also been thinking about the Beofeng as pretty ideal radio for scouts mostly because it is cheap and within reach.

It's cheap and works great. A lot of long time ham operators love them because who cares if they break lol.

                            Maybe a scout net?

Baeofeng radios also operate on frs and gmrs but the legality may not be there lol.

I also have this which could be cool for scouts to build simplex repeater for scout activities.
