  • Bushcraft basecamp

With the weather being so nice this weekend (almost 60) I decided to take the weekend off from basement remodel work and start to develop my camp in the woods. Me and the youngin took to the woods for about an hour Saturday and a few more on Sudan to begin to setup a camp.

I've used the fire pit several times and the area where the tarp is has hosted camp outs a couple times since we moved in. It's one of the few places where we are safe from above dead fall (ash borer).

here's what we've managed to accomplish so far...

All I've used so far is paracord, dead trees and a bahco folding saw to process the wood. The tarp, which will only be up when I'm there is a waterproof canvas tarp. The bricks around the firepit are found in the woods. Old chimney bricks I think. Going to re-do the bed/bench to make it wider and complete the low wall around the back of the shelter. Will do a fire reflector as well. Would like us to do a camp out from late afternoon until after breakfast once it's all set up.

Yeah, he really digs it. It's a prototype for a wall (he wants walls). Going to do the back and sides and see where he wants to take it from there.

Yeah those are nice little folders. I've got one of these coming for serious back country wood work.

That reminds me of the Sawvivor that I have.

That's a pretty cool saw. I esp. like the fact that it's made by a WWII vet. Might have to pick one up myself.

Yes the are similar but the Bob saw has more blade. I'm not completely sure but believe the Sawvivor is no longer being produced.

I'd recommend getting on it if you do want one. They are made by hand and the guy is in his 90's.

You're right. The Sawvivor is no more. I'm pissed that I didn't buy more than one when I found them on sale at Gander Mountain for $10.
