Started reading an interesting book today, Tao of Survival by James Morgan Ayres. It's about using mind/body techniques to develop your senses and awareness of your surroundings and having an ability to take action during survival situations to save yourself and your loved ones. Author commented on Fight/Flight response ingrained in all of our DNA but pointed out two other traits common with non-survivors: Freeze or Flap, basically the "dear in headlights" reaction where you do nothing in face of danger or "Flapping" where you are not doing anything productive which is just as deadly. He also points out how "Learned Helplessness" or how society promotes the notion of "let the responsible authorities take care of it" can get you killed. Haven't gotten that far into book but it is definitely seems worth looking at if you are into this stuff.
