  • Getting my first aid kit dialed in

    This will be my goto first aid kit going forward. Primarily intended for hiking, camping and backpacking but I will probably keep it in my truck and bring it with me when I hit range, etc. Been thinking about this a lot over the past few years and pretty happy with it. I'm sure I'll end up tweaking it though, LOL...

    So I ordered a Condor tear off Molle Pack and added a first aid patch. Pretty solid bag. Going to attach it to outside of backpack while hiking, camping, etc. Release the strap, grab the top handle and it just tears off the attachment point, which is secured by velcro. Got it to 3.6 lbs. which is kinda heavy for hiking/backpacking, but there's a lot of good stuff packed inside!

    So after you tear it off (or just open it up) it opens up to three sections.

    Here's the contents:

    Outside between velcro tear off, 1 pr. Trauma Shears

    Top section:

    4" ACE bandage
    SAM splint, cut to 18"
    About 2 oz. Providine Iodine Solution 10% (Betadine)
    60 ml syringe (for flushing wounds with water and above, diluted to 1%)
    3 pr nitrile gloves
    1 Sharpie (permanent marker)
    Roll waterproof first aid tape
    1 pr tweezers
    1 bottle Visine eye drops

    Middle Section:

    1 MDI CPR Microshield
    1 CAT TQ 10 Tourniquet
    Dark Angle Direct Action Response Kit:
    * 1 Combat Gauze LE (quick klot)
    * 1 Pr HALO Chest Seals
    * 1 4" Israeli Bandage
    * 1 Compressed Gauze
    * 1 Nasopharyngeal Airway
    * 1 pr Nitrile Gloves
    Another 4" Israeli Bandage
    1 Cold Pack
    1 Sheet Mole Skin
    1 Tube Bacitracin Plus
    4 packs 0.6 oz Pedialyte electrolyte powder

    Bottom Section:

    6 Imodium AD
    12 Benedryl
    1 course Azithromycin ("Z-pack" antibiotic)
    1 tube Beeswax Lip Balm
    1 tube Neutrogena Hand Cream
    1 5x9 Abdominal Pad
    3 3" Compressed Gauze
    3 2x3 non-stick Gauze
    2 sterile eye pads
    6 alcohol prep swabs
    3 large Band Aids
    3 medium Band Aids
    3 knuckle Band Aids

    Can you find way to label each section? Like breaks and sprains for top, massive bleeding in middle, first aid for bottom? That way if someone needs to use it on you they might find stuff quicker.

        Very nice looking and seemingly well stocked kit. Hope you never need to use it

        I don't know squat about first aid, so this Q might seem trivial or inconsequential, but doesn't the infection being either viral or bacterial (amongst other criteria) determine which antibiotic is appropriate? How did you come upon the Z pack?

          Bacterial infections esp. respiratory, ears, throat, etc. Unused prescription retained for a better day...

            Any idea how much it weighs? I think NPA''s come in differing sizes. this kit is just for you?

                So probably wise to grab a few more NPA''s in different sizes.

              What were two antibiotics talked about in that class we took? Cipro and something else.
