Easiest is to look at answers then take tests then go take actual exam and done.

Send me sheet they give you and by time I get you radio you should be able to legally transmit on it

I know it's not but look at how long it took..... Don't take this away from me lol! I'll send you radio and programming cord and talk you through programming yourself. By the time you get all that done you will be able to use it since you have to wait for your call sign to show up on website

That would be great. Are their home/mobile systems (that run on different channels) that are better for several hundred miles?

For several hundred miles without repeaters you need HF. No way around it and for voice it's gets pricier. You can make your own antennas as well and you can use your club to help
