  • 1,000th Post Memorial Karma

Been a very tough couple of weeks for the swimmer, hence my absence for awhile. We finally had to put down our little buddy, companion extraordinaire, unconditional friend.....Scooter.

    RIP my little Scooter
    12/19/97 - 4/15/15

    Scooter (2).jpg

This karma is dedicated to my best friend, Scooter. We were blessed to have Scooter in our lives for over 17 years. My kids grew up with him and adored him. He brought us all joy and happiness. Part of who each of us are today can be attributed to this little guy. I was injured in a car accident almost 11 years ago. I have since worked from home, so I basically spent 24/7 with Scooter. His passing has left a huge hole in my heart. Dogs are the best people on earth. RIP my friend.

    KARMA

You want in? You'll post a picture of your pet. That's it. Nothing crazy. No riddles or codes to break.
    - Please just be respectful in honor of Scooter.
    - Have at least 50 posts
    - Offer some words of wisdom to help me get through this, if you'd like.

There will be two offerings in this karma, both knives, pictured below.
The SOG will be awarded to the person who offers the most heartfelt (non religious) words of wisdom for coping, as judged by me.
The Shefield will be awarded randomly by Random.org

    EDIT (thanks Clarence):
I forgot to put an end date for this karma. With that being said, Monday, April 27th is the date two lucky winners will be selected.

My best bud, had to say goodbye to him 2 years ago:

MY GF's constant companion, we let him go a couple of months ago:

Our current guard dog (guarding the couch), inherited her when both of my parents passed away a year ago:

I'm sorry for your loss. I used to get angry when I had to let a friend go, pissed me off that they only live such a short time compared to us but then I realized it is that way on purpose: It's so we can share our lives with as many of them as will have us.

(you bastard, you made me cry as I wrote this)
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

sorry scooter is gone now. wow, 17 years was a good long time, lots of memories. it's amazing all the unspoken comfort a pet can bring, they truly are family. of those days, weeks, months or years where the world may seem a big ball of Peshitta, they are the one thing you can depend on to be consistently on and by your side and bring comfort and a smile. (no karma needed here, already have it -below)

Sorry for the loss MS. It's odd to me that death, while inevitable and a logical conclusion to life, causes such strong feelings of loss without regard to manor beast.

            I wish you peace.

I'm currently pet free, but will probably get a shelter dog in the fall.

Hang in there Swimmer a new pup can never replace a long time companion but it will help.

My girl is getting up there as well.

I lost my boy Austin last September. He was just over 14 years old, a rot/shepard mix. He passed peacefully and painlessly on a Tuesday afternoon while no one was home, he spared us the agony of having to make the decision. My wife called me at work at 4:00, I tried like hell to get out and beat the kids home from school, but I could hear the wailing from the garage when I pulled in the driveway. My 3 kids absolutely adored him, and he them. They've never know life without him until the last 6 months. He was my pal.

I happened upon him when I was a senior in college, a good friends dog had just had 12 puppies and they needed homes. His nickname was "ass magnet" for the first year of his life. He made things too easy for a single guy living in a fraternity house.

masterswimmer, I am so sorry to hear about your best friend and pal is gone, RIP my little Scooter..

All I can say is to do what I would do is to honer all the memories you had and enjoy with little Scooter and that your heart and friendship will be always be with you and him forever..

Unfortunately I have not had any animal since I was 10 years old, I had a Pure Bread Alaskan Malamute which he was bought by my parents for me as a Birthday gift as I always wanted a Husky they also did buy him straight out of Alaska.

Sorry I do not have any pictures of him, he died of natural causes and old age,He was 3 years old when I got him and he passed away at the age of 15 he was my best friend and pal he would always would go where I would go,he loved to ride in the car and play in the lake, the # one thing he love to do was jump in my bed and take up all the space but he did love to be my pillow,lol..

Oh by the way I called him Ace..

Since I do not have a picture this is what he looked like and the only thing different from this Husky and the one I had he had the brightest piercing Silver eyes..

I could probably could get away with a 52 inch shaft but if I could get a 54 inch shaft that would be great as I could always adjust the length of the shaft

I feel your pain swimmer. We had to say goodbye to my buddy two months ago, on valentines day. I still miss him every day. We rescued him from a family that was having issues between the two male black labs, and they wanted to put him down. My wife caught wind of this and decided she wanted him. He hated non-carpeted floors, and our house is all hardwoods, so I told her no, that would suck for him. So we compromised and got the dog and a bunch of runners and area rugs.

We only had him for 6 years, but he immediately became part of the family and went everywhere with us. He was an awesome dog and it's going to be hard for any other dog to measure up to him.

Camper, so sorry for your loss. You know I feel your pain. I have said the exact same thing about Scooter. He set the bar incredibly high for any fury fellow that follows him.

As for wood floors, same here. Scooter would slip and slide all over the place. Runners and area rugs became the norm.

Taking him to the vet was always fun. We'd have to take two towels. We'd lay them down on the floor, let him walk to the second, then move the back one to the front and repeat until he was where he needed to be. I always said I was going to get red ones, like rolling out the red carpet for his majesty.

And one more, since I seem to not be able to stay away from this thread. When I lost my buddy, a few people told me about this poem.

                              Warning: it may get dusty.

                              The Rainbow Bridge
                              inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

                              For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
Old enough to know better, still too young to care
