Leave old posts, they are "content" and content is king. That said, I have modded on other forums where we had the option to enable a pop-up message to the user warning them they were posting in a thread that was more then "x" days/months/years old and asked if they still wanted submit the post anyway. Do we have that option here? (prevents necro-posting)

Cgrutt it was said that this site is like a family I may have been the one who said it I'm clever with words like that lol As a family you have a common interests it is a tie but you also have individual personalities and opinions .
The point is your going to have arguments and disagreements it is in out DNA. Parents.admins and moderators it is their responsibility to referee it is actually in the name moderator to moderate.
I will be the first to say I hate arguments but I won't back down either and you can't use that concern to keep this site the way it is.
You aren't interested in making money really strange but OK so get some venders ,gunsmiths sponsors give them free advertising like I said they will bring customers who may become members who will post topics etc...Gunsmiths are like a myth in this area and the only dealer I see is Bullet Guy and hes is I don't know where NY.
I will send a message to a form1 board .I realize it is a suppressor site but they also shoot and is recommended by a family member. This guy was a member like us and the site owner tried to keep things like you peaceful and busy .The form1 builds grew overnight and the owner was getting overwhelmed and asked this member to become an administrator and he ended up making some real nice changes .The site has approx 500 + members with only 3 staff and I have seen some real nasty arguments handled in a very professional manner so it can be done.
I applaud you only caring about quality not quantity but if you don't have quantity you can't have quality we need members. We need something to bring members here ,keep them here and get them involved

I'm not really following how my desire to have everybody get along is holding back the site in anyway from growing? Also, I didn't say I'm not interested in making money, I said money making is not the motivation behind this site. Bullet Guy was a member here for a while during the time we were having a ton of technical issues stemming from our host. I ran into him at a gun show and he told me flat out he didn't like the version of Vbulletin we were on so he wouldn't use it. Fair enough. Can't please everybody.

Eddie is a great guy BTW...

Disagreements are fine and often create some of the most interesting discussions. The problem is when people become rude and disrespectful. You'd never know it based on the mainstream media these days, but it is possible to have a cordial discussion of opposing ideas. Unless you like cats. Cat lovers have no place in this forum because they are a plague on humanity.

No joke. I needed some 1911 trigger/sear work done and asked multiple gun shops about it. They all said I'd need to send it out of state because there are only a couple guys in state and they're really expensive. Stupid me didn't realize I compete in CMP matches with a serious gunsmith. He retired from his day job and is now doing gunsmithing full time in the Rochester area. My 1911 trigger is incredible now and I didn't have to deal with the hassle of sending it out.

          It isn't.

Now that you've cleared that up this place is going to be a cash cow.

Find out why members aren't coming here anymore
Find out why they don't post more
what do you mean cleaning up old posts? Locking them or what?
Also can you explain how things should be streamlined more for organization of site?

            Did I miss anything?
Cleaning old post I mean there are posts in alot of sub forums that are no longer good like in the out of state pistol permit sub forum first post by Lady Instructor .that was for February it can go .
the rest could be moved to a sub forum in firearm laws there are alot of old posts that announced things that have passed and can be removed or posts with zero replies
In regards to members can't you send out a email asking all members if they still are interested in being members ,why they stopped coming ,why they stopped posting ,what can the site do to get them more involved or to come back those of us still here would just ignore the email.
Like I said 36 members in 10 pages haven't been here in a year and a half no visits no posts nothing. you have to ask your self why did they join and just stop coming. Was it to ask one question and there are 19 pages total so more members ill bet?
Streamlining is a hard one there is alot of information to sift thru I think that suggestion was based around NYG being a new site so they just listed category threads and members filled them as they posted That would require a lot of thought about templates categories what can be merged what should be in it's own sub forum

[QUOTE=Cgrutt;n95357]And for what it's worth, we're still #3 on the Google Search "Best NY Gun Forum" and #2 isn't even a NY forum, LOL...

Cgrutt I think there are only 5 NY gun forums total
              NY Firearms
              NY Gun
              AvidArms
              Long Island
              and Firearms forum

By sub-forum granularity, I meant that I feel there are too many subforums, like Off-Topic for example, there should (IMHO) be one off topic forum and anything not relating to guns goes in there, theres no reason to have all the subforums, all it does is make the site appear less busy.

The O/T section is from the project I mentioned earlier. We had different forums and moved them under the O/T section but never deleted the original forums that became sub forums. I agree with you about this and we should look into cleaning it up if we can.

Don't worry about deleting old posts, as mentioned earlier content is king and even old posts bring people to the site from google. However be sure any sticky posts are up to date, don't let them become obsolete or else it makes the forum appear dead and deserted.

I suggest not adding a live chat, it takes away from actual forum activity. Idle chit-chat is just fine in the "Last post wins" thread..

Maybe add a section for reviews/recommendations of books, accessories, etc ? That is some good content that we all can benefit from and contribute to.

Even if it's one thread "Post the last thing you bought and a short review thread"

I think we do have review section, and we do have chat that is like PM live but not in sense of people can join and leave conversation when they want.

Maybe we just need to choose thread topics better and make use of tags?
