Narrowing in on new name

I couldn't imagine going through all the effort to change a name and then logo and whatever else has to be done legally..all that time invested..just to have 1 gun thread a month and 4 peeps doing a last post thread and many home improvement threads...but eyyyyy I'm just an innocent bystander putting my 2cents in the cup.

What is the source of this comment? I have not seen this anywhere, and would like to know the exact phrasing.

The closest thing I can find with a quick search is an unattributed quote of "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence."

But I'm just curious on how a new name will achieve a change?? The content will be the same, the name change would only work if it had a key name in that is key word people will search specific for no??

I would start first with a clear mission statement for this forum. A name is worth (to me) 10-15% of the total big picture. The content and clarity of focus is worth much more.

For example, on that other site I have no freaking idea what is allowed or not allowed, so I post very gingerly. Is it my loss? My ego thinks not.

It's not that a new name will do anything in and of itself. We need to lose the current name which can have a negative connotation with guns. I've been told directly by many people they wouldn't even log on to check us out because of the name. I don't agree with it and happen to like the current name but understand where people are coming from.

Mek's advice is spot on and should be paid attention to. Of course there's exceptions to every rule. TTAG comes to mind.

Whatever you do, don't segregate the forum by state. As a matter of fact, the less categories the better.

Yep, I agree 100% and we're listening to Mek (well, except about specialization even though I know he's right; we like it as a general place to chat about guns and other stuff).

We're working on some other ideas that incorporates most of the points Mek was kind enough to lay out for us.
