  • what kind of shooting threads would you like to see?

Just curious what kind of shooting threads you all would like to see? I did a couple already and looking for inspiration for more or maybe for someone who has the knowledge to share.

So what do you all want?

Here a few ideas to make people truly understand ballistics no matter what firearm...

Basic reloading considerations for beginners (I am already writing a paper on this one)
    Basic ballistics concepts
    Beginners rifle and ammo
    Beginners pistol and ammo
    One shot zero procedure
How to build a precision AR rifle.
How to build a precision bolt rifle or what to look for on a custom one.
    0% lower project
    Proper optics installation procedure
Ballistics applied to your rifle and shooting style.
    Any Wildcat projects
    Any Safe compliance project
    Re-barreling a savage 10/11 - Easy as pie.

But anything really. If it has a trigger, I am in.

No matter what the key is to have some folks interested. In nyf I started many threads that didn't get any kind of traction
while in other forums the same threads I started got dozens of people to work on them.

Ok I have got a serous question for you or anyone else that can help me as it actually effects me the most and I have tried everything I know but nothing I know of can help me.

I not sure maybe it effects other member like me..

Ok ever since I turn 18 years old I have been suffering from a medical condition they call tremors, kind of like some one who suffers with alzheimer's but only being effected by shakes in there hands or other parts of there body, for me it is just my hands I have the problem with.

The only really way I can really shoot is to ether bench shoot or have my rifle or pistol resting on something so I can get at least some what of a steady shot..sometimes I am ok and other times I have to just relax my whole arms and hands before I would attempt to take my shot,it also gets worse when some one is watching me so I know it is a nervous issues but I have tried everything that I know can calm my hands down for me.

So do you know of any technique I can try to help with this issue?

        Clarence
I could probably could get away with a 52 inch shaft but if I could get a 54 inch shaft that would be great as I could always adjust the length of the shaft

Just reminded me of something I had forgotten about.

Do you have this issue at home by yourself?

Try practing sighting in at home and dry firing. Get a PMA, Positive Mental Attitude. PMA can be anything that helps you relax like thinking of naked chicks or whatever lol. Focus on whatever it is and try to block everything else out.

When I would shoot 500 meters with iron sites in prone I would imagine taking a shot at Osama bin laden lol. Don't be afraid to take your time and take deep breathes. Something else that may help is look into hypnotism. Not to ne necessarily be hypnotized but more to learn how to block everything else out.

Besides that avoid stimulants like nicotine, caffeine, ect.

Sounds like a real good bunch of ideas up there.

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

having a little shaking is normal, many folks even after some strong cofe can have those.
What you want is to try several things. usmc already mentioned some good ones.

The more relaxed you are the better. Deep breathing is key. Also embrace every single aspect of the shooting, the rifle must be cozy, the cheek weld perfect the recoil, you should embrace it,
even the smells I love. play this in your mind as a unique and personal experience. Screw everything else.
Avoid using muscle and find your shooting positions supported by your skeleton structure. Think of your body as a built in super flexible tripod and rifle rest. I think a one on one session with
a professional instructor would be amazing value. Also in the winter use thick gloves, thick coats and padding. These not only keep you warm that also helps but they arrest any minor tremor.
Visualization is a great thing. One can do whatever visualization but I think something in the context of shooting is a great idea and it works. For example I visualize I am the bullet, I am getting
into the chamber and I am going to be propelled and where I want to hit. When shooting skeet I select my pickup point and then my kill point and I visulize the target breaking.
Did you know that when practicing if you visualize the play and your hits you are most likely to hit the mark? This is a fact. In many ways is the same as the zen philosophy of "one with the arrow" in archery.
There are so many things. If I could watch you for a few minutes I could give you a few useful pointers. I wish you were closer.

And remember everyone shooting is learning to one level or another. So no need to feel pressure. The only challenger all our lives are ourselves and our own minds. We only stop learning the day we die.

Not so much. I am a simple student always learning. Trust me there are many folks who know a lot more.
I was thinking some of those because they are related to common problems I help people at the range and the leagues with.
Like poorly mounted optics are the norm. People think they are right but they get a big surprise when we go through the check list.
Then how to get to the zero with one or two shots vs. spending two boxes of ammo w/o knowing why.

I hear you there, the hardest part for me is shooting free handed meaning shooting with no rest,I am very bad at this as my hands will sometime get so bad at shaking I can not hold a pencil steady at all,I have seen all sorts of Dr. to see what could be done to fix this problem, they wanted to put me on meds for this but I refused as it is not very good meds to take, hell I can not even sew a fishing lure I can but it takes me awhile to do so,so this is one of the reason when I go to the range I mainly bench shoot,I really hate that I can not shoot free handed with out shaking,I can shoot free handed I just can not be very accurate at it,meaning I can hit the target but not as a marksman trying to hit a bulls eye..

I really wish I could shoot free handed,I would love to be a good marksman able to shoot,I have always wanted to be a good target shooter especial with a pistol..

I agree also I wished I lived closer to everyone here so I can go shooting with you all,I hate trying to go by myself and I do go with the landlord but he sometimes does not want to go so I go by myself but it is not as fun when you have someone to go shooting with..

I will tell you this much and considering I have this issue with shaking, I can out shoot my landlord with my Savage MKII 22LR, Savage 22 magnum at 2 different ranges 50 yards up to a 100 yards and for my pistols I out shoot him with my S&W M&P 22lr and my Berretta 9mm..ranges are between 15 yards to 25 yards

He was so surprised how well I shoot these guns he could not believe how well I shoot, again he and my self both bench shoot..

The best part about this is I am better then him and that is a good thing as he always brags how bad I am and it shocks him that I better then him..

2nd USMC. A lot of what you wrote on the other site went way over my head. I would probably have to start with the remedial class. You know, ballistics for the sweat hogs.
