I moved the seal down into the pointy part of the shield because it seemed so empty....So what to replace the seal if it's raised back up onto the state?
I did this design with the design element you suggested with military patches in mind. I'll have do some research.
First, I need coffee, breakfast and have to go vote.

Oh man those last two are awesome.... I'm leaning towards the campfire but for personal reasons. What do you guys like? Can we make the font more interesting? On the patch I'd put the guns in center and lose the seal.

I like the patch one - but remember that often it'll be shrunk - and the NY state seal will be tough to identify.

Sometimes you can have too much detail.

I do like the campfire one.
