    They were shooting their shotgun and one round was obviously a lot quieter so their is a risk it was under charged or something went wrong and barrel could be plugged with the projectile. So you want to make sure barrel is not obstructed before shooting again so you don't blow up your barrel potentially.

      Gotcha! Yeah, I'd be a little concerned as well.
      I could be wrong...it's happened before and it'll happen again.

        I am always amazed by the level of safety displayed by my fellow shooters at these classes, as soon as that round went "pop" (not "boom") everybody shouted almost in unison: Stop!

        The poor girl looked at us like we were all crazy but it was a good teaching moment for the noobs.
        Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

        I have to bend over too far

        I get a boner.

        bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

        I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

            I was standing right next to her during the Rolling Thunder drill when the squib went off. I saw the wadding hit the berm, but was still yelling cease fire anyway. I'd hate to see someones barrel explode in their face. The worst part is, Chris Fry gave her his 870 to finish the drill, and that jammed up after a few rounds too. Then the barrel fell off on the husband later. They had some bum luck with equipment yesterday for sure, but did really well. Especially considering that they were new gun owners and had only about 20 or so rounds each through it before the class.

              When a gun should go BANG and it kinda goes pop. Indicative of low/no powder charge... which is indicative of the projectile not having the UMPF behind it to clear the barrel....which is leads to obstructions and barrels that blossom into pretty pictures.

              {Stock photo I use in my Hunter Ed courses.}

              Because the immediate action when something does not fire, is to cycle another into the chamber and fire again, squibs get stoopid dangerous. One rarely hears the squib when firing, it just sounds like a click...so rack 'em and re-engage!

              I carry 3' of weed whacker line in my range bag, just to quickly check for this, shoudl I feel the need arise.

              Had this happen to a buddy just this summer at a 'defensive pistol' shoot (Springwater) in a G21. He racked the slide as the RO (who heard the squib) was already moving towards him yelling stop (it is a timed event...doesn't help the situation). Thank goodness, the bullet was only lodged in the throat, and would not allow the 2nd round to chamber. We pounded it out, reset, and it happened again. He was pulled from the line. Later, we found half a dozen other rounds like that, in a bag he 'found' in a box of reloading stuff after he moved several years ago. Just forgot to add powder, that's all. primer alone is enuf to push the round into the barrel (to where it needs to be pounded out w/ hammer & punch), no where near enuf to get it out of the barrel.

                oh yea.....that class was definitely NOT a Remington infomercial. After every 870 failure, the 20/20 special on the Rem 700, and that Illion factory tour a few years ago, I am more than leery about these products.

                        Thug always looks like a badass. I would have taken the class in my jammies and fuzzy slippers to simulate a real home defense situation.

                                No, one of those crappy Mossy 500's....the kid let the barrel nut get loose. He was having trouble all afternoon racking rounds into it, we finally figured out why.
