  • Unique Experience being a strudent

I had a unique experience today being a student for an instructor's class. ..... basically as a student shooter I was given 3hrs of one on one instruction from several prospective instructors.
Instructor's class was run by Lower Hudson Trainer (Andrew). Do not hesitate to jump at any classes run by Andrew.
High Peaks Guru, but prefers twin peaks

we will need a separate class for my wife and for my girlfriend.

I have only heard great things about him! He really needs a website to put his name out there.
I bought my sons out of state.

      Hi Alistair,

Thanks for coming. Classes are pretty boring when there are no (or not enough) participants to make it work. Your presence made a difference, and your willingness to try new/seemingly oddball stuff is always a boon to any instructor. If all my participants were like you and the rest of the gang that showed up I'd do this 5 days a week.

I am going to assume that for the time being I am able to speak of my classes? I am not actively trying to do business here (or anywhere, for now, as I have things to put in their proper place). If what I am typing below is not allowed here - mods please feel free to lock/delete/send me to work 1 day for Hitlery's campaign.

This was the NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home Instructor course - live fire exercises. From around 9:30am until 12:45pm we (myself, my staff and instructor candidates) worked on those drills as we had discussed and outlined in the class. At 1pm we invited in shooters who we knew were safe, proficient and most important of all for us lawfully able to possess handguns! Range exercises were conducted at one of the police ranges at Blue Mountain Sportsman Center, Cortlandt NY (upper Westchester County, county facility).

All shooters performed well under the circumstances (mosquitoes masquerading as moths), and instructor candidates were able to hone their skills from working with new shooters.

Gunsick, My best answer for now is, stay tuned. I've been doing this for over a decade and have to carefully balance this stuff with my professional life with my private life.

LHT, you're totally fine with your post. Feel free to announce future classes. Sometime in the not too distant future (around the 1 yr mark) there could be a vendor sponsor fee, but until then you're GTG. Have at it.

I will be taking the MDTS Practical Pistol #1 class in a few weeks. After that I will be able to compare LHT (Andrew) to another teacher. But as of now he gets a A+ grade from this student

            Hi Alistair,

I cannot and will not speak for MDTS. Anything from here on is my own opinion, a distillation of being in his classes, reading his work, speaking with him, watching some of his videos. Chris and I are associates, and we run into each other on occasion, and we refer people to each other all the time. One of my ROs does some work on occasion with MDTS. I've sent people to him for knife stuff, pistol stuff, long gun stuff, and he's sent folks to me for pistol and NRA student/instructor stuff. I don't want to be a liar, but I THINK I may have also done a knife class with him? Maybe it was with someone else...but I think I did.

The class you were in this past weekend and the MDTS class you are taking (I think I have taken it twice) are very different beasts. I have no shame (or pride) in saying I would rate my instructional abilities, for what you were exposed to, or in general at a C, or at best a C+. I would rate Chris Fry & MDTS at a solid B+, if that tells you anything. His course is clearly a metric butt ton more fun, involves many more scenarios, and moves at a much faster clip (which makes things interesting) than the funeral like pace we were moving at.

I will send you an email later this week on some things you can do to ensure your gear provides a high rate of utility to you during that class, and how you can mentally prepare for this (and any future) firearms related classes.

In closing, I fully recommend MDTS. Lots of solid, relevant, good stuff without any of the hollywood whiz bang stuff which is not realistic anyways.

Hope to run into you again on the range. Until then, be safe, watch your six.

Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

              I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

LHT if I haven't already offered well give you your own section to post your courses no cost or obligation until Sept. Then well talk but if an when we do charge vendors I'm sure you will think its reasonable. Were trying to build solid content and attract membership so you'll be helping us as much as we will be helping you. Feel free to post whatever you want. No worries here. Thanks.
