I'm taking the NRA certified RSO training provided by Sporting & Defensive Firearms Academy, LLC and hosted at ORGC the next 2 Friday evenings. Anybody ever take this class? I'll add a review when I complete the training.

OK, got through the first half of the course. A lot of common sense stuff that I never really thought about: standard operating procedures, administrative rules, etc. Eli did a great job running the class and communicating the information. A majority of the guys taking the class are planning to participate as RSO's for the upcoming 3 gun match in June so there is definitely a slant towards training them for that. Being more of a CMP and trap shooter (don't say it, EvilD) I am finding it interesting to learn about the procedural stuff relevant to 3 gun.
Homework is to prepare a safety briefing to be delivered next week, can't wait!Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

If you tap it wrap it if you pay for it wrap it twice is safety brief we got in marines for 72's and 96's.

Make up our own, the requirements being that it addresses the following 5 topics:
- purpose of the event
- range layout/limits
- range safety rules
- firing line commands
- emergency procedures

Good class tonight, we didn't give the full safety briefing but had to have a standard set of firing line commands memorized (no problem). I got there early as Eli was going over the stages for the upcoming 3 gun match in June....all I can say is WOW, this is going to be an awesome event with some really cool stages! I am tied up with a CMP event the Saturday of the 3 gun match weekend but am definitely going to make an effort to shoot it on Sunday.
So, I passed the RSO test and just need to log in and pay my fee to get the cert validated and my credentials sent. I'd recommend the class to everybody, even if you aren't planning on RO'ing any events it's still a great learning experience and will make you a safer shooter.Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I guess I'm officially an RSO now, got my cherry popped today. Showed up to shoot the pistol match this morning at ORGC and...surprise... was informed that I would be RO'ing the event (along with two other shooters that happened to take the course). Nothing like OTJ training/trial by fire. It was actually a lot of fun and I must have done OK because nobody got hurt.Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

Good review, sounds like you walked away with more knowledge than before - which is always a great thing, and even better you got to put that knowledge to use PDQ.
