Saw this somewhere else, turned my two grapes into raisin seeds.
RO is totally at fault. He is supposed to sweep up from back berm to firing line and across to each side berm to ensure his range is cold and safe before making it hot.
Also, RO must know everyone who is assisting - time keeper, pasters - whatever they are calling them now, and do a head count on all staff before making a range hot. You can't control where your shooters (participants) wander off to when they are done with a stage, but you absolutely need to know if any of your staff needs to shake more than three times in the porta potty.
The proper course of action would be to relieve everyone working that particular stage of their official duties immediately and have them retrained.
My knee jerk reaction is the RO has already demonstrated his inability to conduct safe shooting exercises. Just imagine the fecal low pressure system if at some point down the road someone DOES get injured or killed because of an improperly managed stage by him.
Can't comment about the case by the authorities (criminal case), but in the civil case the plaintiff's attorney (or for the atty representing the estate) would only simply need to find this video.
Bad juju for the entity that certified him if he keeps his certification; bad juju for any other shooting sports entity that certifies him.
Listen, he could be the nicest guy in the whole zip code that let you double date with him during high school, his actions, or more succinctly lack of, almost got someone killed/hurt, and almost wrecked one other person's life.

You are right. Any folks involved on this need to get a big boot in the azz. That man was crazy lucky he didn't get hit with so many assorted targets
and various angles. This situation is totally unacceptable and a good reminder that around firearms nothing should be given for granted. Check, double check
and then check again. There is no such thing as OCD when it comes to this type of safety. It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

Shooting Stages like these should have TWO Range Officers. BOTH should have to be in agreement before any shooting starts on a range. One set of eyes is good, two sets of separate eyes are better! Props to the actual shooter at properly identifying his targets and immediately stopping his shooting!NRA Life Member

So not for nothing, but if I was the guy downrange, I would be fukking the ground and shouting "cease fire" as loudly as I could. There's no reason for that guy to be vertical after the many rounds had already been released.
Of course, none of my commentary relieves the RO from liability for is negligence.Athiest. Because... science
