Newbs are welcome? My experiences with pistol shooters at the GCL haven't been very pleasant so far. Lots of attitude and rude responses any time I've had an encounter. Not that I've had a lot of encounters so far, but the ones I have had sure didn't make me feel welcome.

I was pleasantly surprised the Tuesday night I stopped into the range. The defensive pistol guys seemed pleasant.

yeah the uspsa guys are pretty welcoming to newbs. the tuesday night guys are too as you noticed. these groups generally want to grow (or at least continue on), so are pretty welcoming.
unlike the kermugens that usually line up at the pistol range lol
but like anything involving a bunch of guys at the range, there's always one guy having an off night and there's always a few guys that are just antisocial or self-absorbed.

though thughes is right that there is a large percentage of white bald guys, there are often women at the range both nights too.

BigFlash> I am surprised that you mention that. As most of the shooters are 'plastic gun' shooters, I'd be surprised that a lot of them would bash their own gear...LOL

And Warfab: I'd like to hear a first hand account of your experiences. Most times, when we hear commentary or concerns such as yours, there are a lot of other factors. Personally, I try to keep my ear on this stuff as it's usually a misinterpretation of a safety rule or other range operation question. Feel free to contact me offline.

Most guys shoot a certain time slot every week. I switch around due to my schedule. If I'm on a new time slot people always ask me hey are you new and are very welcoming and helpful.

What exactly do I need again? Going through my stuff for packing I found a paddle holster and double mag holster..... that's all I need right?

Gun, couple of mags, concealable holster, 30-40 rounds. Sign up for an account here and then when you get approved make sure you log in first thing Wednesday morning and assign yourself to the 5;30 squad.

I carry spare mags in my pocket, the whole concept is to be as close to your EDC situation as possible. Full sized combat pistols, tactical vests, speed holsters, etc, really don't play. Keep it real.....hell, I shoot my pocket .380 every few weeks just to stay sharp.
