  • Double Duty Shotgun

So i want a shotgun for home defense , but want to be able to shoot some sporting clays and trap as well. I'm new to shotties, never owned one before.
Question is;- Is there a relatively cheap shotgun that will serve for both of these purposes. I know that most people recommend a 26 or 28in barrel for clays, and a 20in or shorter barrel for HD. Should i look for something with swapable barrels or split the difference with a 23 or 24in fixed barrel ?

I would go with two separate barrels. Most barrels in 23" or 24" are deer barrels that won't help you out with clays. You can't go wrong with a Remingtom or Mossberg pump action with a 26" barrel for clays and a 18" or 20" for HD.
I bought my sons out of state.

What specific model Remingtom or Mossberg pump action do you recommend?

You can get them for around $100 less than MSRP. You can't go wrong with wood or synthetic furniture it's really a personal choice.

Done a little research and I think I'll look at Mossberg 500.
I think this combo is what I'm looking for.

Typically where is the cheapest place to buy shotguns?
Is it okay to buy used?

Used is always good if you can find a deal. If you want new I would go with this $350 and free shipping. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/46907

All I need to do is get this into the house without my wife finding out.

Wally World has the Mossberg 500 in different calibers for $267. I bought one and although it comes with the 28" accu-choke barrel, I'll simply pick up a used or new ($99) 18.5" HD barrel off fleabay or something. Love the Mossberg!!

Mossy is definitely a solid choice but the only two I've ever shot kicked like a mule lol. Could have been the loads though.
