  • CMP Legacy Matches

I got a Shooting Sports USA eblast today that contained a tidbit that was interesting. It looks like the CMP is adding some new matches to the Camp Perry calendar.

    http://thecmp.org/cmp-to-introduce-n...ional-matches/

    • CMP Heritage Match (Aug. 10) – 800 Aggregate event, 20 shots standing and 20 shots sitting at the 200-yard line, 20 shots rapid fire at the 300-yard line and 20 shots prone slow fire at the 600-yard line
    • CMP Viale Memorial Match (Aug. 11) – 50-shot National Match Course of Fire
    • CMP Critchfield 2-Man Team Match (Aug. 12) – 50-shot National Match Course of Fire
    • CMP Modern Military Rifle Match (Aug. 13) – 55-shot match fired at the 200-yard line
    • CMP Roosevelt Commemorative Match (Aug. 14) – Krag/1903 only, 30-shot match fired at the 200-yard line
The "Modern Military Match" is only for stock non-accurized M1A and AR15 rifles.

These matches will be after the NRA matches and Palma/Long Range matches, so CMP competitors might be making 2 trips to Perry this summer.

Edit: The 2016 rule book doesn't seem to offer any additional information on these matches. I'm a little fuzzy on the details for the CMP Heritage Match course of fire.

The CMP/NRA leases the range for 4 weeks to host the Nationals. With the International Palma event held at Perry the last two years, small bore was moved to another range I believe in Illinois. With Palma done, small bore was invited back and they are so pissed they said suck us! The new matches were created to fill that space and try to create some revenue to offset the lease cost. The matches look to be interesting but everyone is so beat up at the end of two weeks of High power that I believe they will have a tough time creating an interest.

i would love to comment ion this, but I cant see my text. white on white is crappy color scheme. 10 minutes of playing witht e settings, and removing all the light greys to pruples had no avail. I wonder if you will even see this?

I did resewt to DEFAULT and that has had no effect, refreshing each time I saved a change. ho hum.

yes, whn I type in the little white box, beneath the posts above, my text it white. white ion white does not make for good syntax. the color scheme is FUBAR and no settings that I can find in the settings can change it. i will not see what this looks like until I post it....typing blind

Sounds like HamChu need to ditch the flip phone and step into the 21st century.

Ok, I guess there is an ADVANCED EDITOR that I can change the text color (must do it for each reply I wish to type) . WTF was that?!? Nothing like the Stevie Wonder Forum Experience.....anyways...the CMP Legacy Matches....

Ill conceived, but a start is a good direction. They are trying to fill up the time slots they have paid for,and I have read that these were what they USED to shoot back when the Nationals were new.

The Modern Military I think is the one most suited....an actual as-issued, rack grade, non-accurized battle rifle. Such as, but not limited to: M16, M4, AK, SKS, FAL, G3, Galil etc.....Its just too bad that we can't have any of these here.

The schedule is totally wrong. No one is going to shoot their matches and hang out in Port Clinton for an extra week (or two...or three) to shoot these 200yard matches. Certainly no one will shoot, go home and return two weeks later for them.

They need to be infused within the schedule, but from what I've read, they were too busy F'ing up the AR-15 scope rules to worry about that final week. That week was posted as "COMING SOON" up until two weeks ago. Participation will (probably) be abysmal, which will impact next year's decisions to do these again.

They SHOULD have put these matches along with the GSM matches, and separate them from P100 etc and the NRA High Power. Maybe tack them on the week prior to the GSM matches (during the SAFS, maybe) and make a straight week of 200yard matches. I would love to shoot them....if they were buddied-up with the matches I already shoot.

The Heritage Match is pretty straight forward, its getting very NRA High Power-ish with the movement all up and down the range. Its just alotta bullets. And I think its supposed to be a real 'service rifle.' I wonder if NRA is gonna feel a little 'encroached upon' by this one.

I do not see the Roosevelt match going much further...it is limited to M1903 (NOT A3--just plain 1903) and Krag rifles only. The reason they slotted the Springfield with the Vintage was due to the minuscule number of Springfield owners (and that being 1903 AND 1903A3). Krag ownership is a rare and elite club. Usually open to Illuminati only.

Abysmal participation might mean better chance of winning?

I'm intrigued by the heritage match. Not clear if it's open to NM rifles. I don't have the vacation time or desire to spend another 10 hours on the road though. Agree they should have been scheduled closer to the regular matches.
