FWIW, I have one of those Spanish Mausers in .308....fun gun but the sights absolutely suck (especially if you're going to try and shoot 200 yards with it). Better off with a Mosin 91/30, the ammo is way cheaper too (if you buy surplus). If you can swing a little more but aren't ready to drop the $ on an M1, I'd really recommend a Swiss K31.
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

I have never competed, unless you count playing who can hit the can first, or who got the highest score at the RETS range.

So is there a website somewhere with info about matches in NYS? I know there are a ton of different types of pistol competition and I would imagine the same is true of rifle competition. Is there a website that shows all the various competitions in NY? I think it would be fun to compete but honestly I don't know or understand the differences between the different types of competition. If I was able to compete (meaning I had the proper rifle) then it would likely boil down to what is closest to me. If there isn't a site like that maybe this site could have a sticky thread on it or something?

      Two questions about rifle competition:
-Is there any competition I could enter using my AR? Its a mid-length in 5.56 with a micro dot. Is it even eligible to compete with? Would it be a decent choice for any competition?

      -Legality aside, if I had a 22" M1A or M14 same questions.

Different clubs have different rules. For CMP/NRA high power competition the M1A/M14 would be legal for competition if you shoot it using iron sights.

In Rochester the GCL CMP matches allow a variety of firearms and sights so people can try competing and get involved. You could shoot your mid length AR if you wanted, but the red dot sight would limit your accuracy and you'd probably do better with the M1A.

We've had guys compete with carbines and even a scoped AR if I remember correctly. High power rules for positions apply though, so no bipods when shooting prone.

The CMP website has a lot of information, and I think they have a listing of affiliated clubs too. www.odcmp.com

There are more resources online, but I'm posting this from my phone so it's harder to find links.

Appleseed is not a competition, but a shooting clinic shot at 25 meters (I have shot AS and am now an instructor) CMP rimfire sporter rifle is a competition shot at 50 yards prone/kneeling or sitting and 25 yards standing no sling, There are also rifle weight and trigger weight restrictions (pretty much stock rifles) My Club Sara Spa in Greenfield hosts both.

No. Both are groups that promote civilian marksmanship, but they are separate entities.

Spanish Mauser is GTG. Any foreign military bolt gun from WWI through WWII is accepted.

Not active this season but I want to get back when I land a new customer / project.
what about skeet, sporting clays or even trap, anyone?

We should do a trap/skeet get together in the greatest rochester area. Those are fun.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

I'd be in. I've only shot clays twice in my life, but I've had fun both times. It would give me a chance to dust off the Citori.

Tuesday night trap under the lights at ORGC, open to the public. They shoot year round, I shoot indoors at GCL during the winter with the pistol guys but will be back at the trap shoot (and steel shoot, open to public too) on Tuesday nights once the weather breaks.

If 5 of us can get together and fill a squad I'd be happy to give the pistols a night off, bundle up, and meet out at Ontario for a round or two of trap.

TH and Warfab, our match on Saturday will be 50 shot plus sighters. Bring enough ammo and gun and TH, I am expecting an expert level score from you!
