Does it count if I show up once a month for the CMP match? I'm thinking about bringing out the K31or the PU sniper, do you guys run any bolt gun-only matches?

It certainly counts TH! Yes you can run bolt guns of both US and Foreign military type.

You should definitely buy one. If you want to try competing before you've bought one you can. Most CMP affiliated clubs will have loaner Garands available for newbies. You can then qualify for a discounted price on your own Garand through the CMP.

In the CMP matches there are specific events for the M1903 Springfield as well as vintage foreign bolt actions including Mausers and the like. In our local club matches we have "run what you brung" rules and you are scored for your specific rifle type. Get to the next gun show and find a $300 bubba Springfield. A bunch of us have as issued stocks and sights that we will sell to you to bring it back to a man rifle. Then come out and shoot your local matches!

One of the Clubs I belong to started last year a few Vintage (pre-1960?) fun matches! Been think of picking up one of those Spanish Mausers in 308win if they would qualify?
