For anyone chasing leg points there is an EIC match on April 23,2017 at Reade Range, Fallentimber, PA. Registration and trigger inspection starts at 7:30AM, first relay shoots at 9:00AM. And yes, Reade is to have there electronic targets in operation. Speaking of their electronic targets, they are linked to a cloud system via satellite and all scores are uploaded for match management by the supplier. You can log in to the supplier and download an ap that allows you to monitor a match and specific shooters from anywhere in the world and see the shooters impacts on target in realtime. This stuff is getting serious!!!!

Great question MC and I'm not sure. When trying to score points for Distinguished Marksman Badge you have to shoot master and high master scores in a given match. Depending on the number of competitors, points from 3 to 10 are awarded for the shooters with master level plus scores. It is said that it's the legs of a three legged stool that it is possible to take 30 points in three matches. Very few people have done this and most people take a lifetime of shooting to accumulate the award points. DM has been awarded to Service and civi shooters for 50 years now and to data there are only 2300 who have received the prestigious award.
ham_Chu might know better, can you chime in?

My understanding is that you aren't allowed to go distinguished in 3 matches even if you could. You're only allowed to have a single 10 point leg on your way to the 30 points required to go distinguished. The rest of the legs have to be comprised of smaller point combinations.
The number of points awarded per match depends on how you place at the match and how many competitors are participating in the match. I think the only place you can achieve a 10 point award is at the national matches at Camp Perry, but I'm not 100% sure about that.NRA Life Member

The point value is based on the number of non-DM in the given match. The higher the number the more legs and points are awarded ranging from 10 down to 3 points. To earn legs you have to finish in the top 98th percentile of score (or there about) so it is real tough!!! One of the guys I took NRA instructor course with last fall is a retired cop out of Buffalo that served 20 in the US Army. He is double distinguished (God could you imagine) and he said he legged out in one year with three 10 pointers and that one leg was mandatory from the NTI at the Nationals. Now that I started this discussion, I will look into it deeper and report back to you.

Looks like to go distinguished you need at least one 8 or 10 point leg, but now I'm not seeing anything about only being allowed one 10 point leg.
I thought I remember reading that the rule only allowing one 10 point leg was implemented to encourage participation in local and regional matches, but now I'm not seeing anything about it so who knows where I got that from.NRA Life Member
