  • Trashed a spring on my 10/22 takedown

So since I got laid off, then rather quickly found a consulting gig, I've spent a LOT of time cleaning guns that have been somewhat neglected. Today was the first time stripping and cleaning my 10/22 takedown. Field strip was easy, bolt is a bit trick to get apart and there's a tiny spring that lives under the firing pin that allows it to retract after the hammer hits it. When re-assembling it, I misaligned the firing pin and crushed the spring. Pain in the balls for sure. Went to Midway and ordered 2 more of everything I laid my hands on and 3 more of that specific spring. I'll try to post a pic of the little bastard, but a word of caution to all - be careful, and buy spare parts in advance!!

Who are you the Hulk lol? Man you mashed that good. Show us picks of the over the top box those parts come in. I ordered a spring once and it came in a box from Brownells you could fit a five gallon bucket in.
I bought my sons out of state.

That sucks man!!! I could have saved you some money!! You could have given the 10/22 to me!! That way you wouldn't have to cry about the extremely high cost of those parts you ordered!! You'd also have the money to go out and buy a new 10/22TD!!!

You should check out this thread!! LMAO!!!

Ha! I actually thought about posting this there! Spare parts weren't that expensive, and the bag the TD comes in has lots of room for extra stuff. Just bummed as it was my trunk gun and had to swap it out for something else.

Lack of attention on my part. Tried to hammer the retaining pin back in without having the hole properly aligned. First time with the 10/22 on a full strip. $25 worth of learning.

I could probably could get away with a 52 inch shaft but if I could get a 54 inch shaft that would be great as I could always adjust the length of the shaft
