  • CMP Rimfire Sporter (Practice match)

I got to the Club (Sara Spa Rod & Gun Club) a little before noon yesterday, And forgot this match was at 1:00 so I ran home to get my Marlin 989 M2 which meets the weight and trigger pull requirements. There were just a few shooter, I had some issues with a new box of Winchester M-22! What I thought were duds shot just fine in my Ruger American after the match! Well I switched to Mini Mags for the off-hand standing portion of the match, Much better!! Funny thing though that little Marlin I've had for over 40 years never had any issues with any ammo before? Next practice match I'll be more sure of my ammo of choice!!

Probably not the gun, check on line to see if others have any of the same issues.

Do they do rimfire at same time as other classes? I would really like to get out and do another cmp sometime myself because they are a lot of fun.

I have shot 1000's of rounds of this ammo in this and other 22's with no issues. Just going to try it in my 10/22's and see how they handle it ! I have a bunch of this so I'll have to check batch #'s As I said it shot OK in the bolt gun and it was a new brick that I just opened.

Ham-Chu is running a rimfire CMP match in Springwater coming up soon (there's a thread somewhere here about it) and the regular match at GCL is this Saturday (didn't you get the email from Charlie?). I can't make this month's match at GCL but you can drop the match director an email if you're interested........I'll even loan you my rifle! PM me if you're interested.

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

I'll have to check times, I would have to be done by noonish so I think that would mean first string would work on Saturdays right?

I do have AR as well.

Well I got to the range yesterday to checkout the issues I had at the match last Sunday. First I tried the 989 M2 with one of the original 7rd mags with the M-22 ammo same misfires! Then I tried the M-22 in my 2007 model 10/22 two rounds would fire then a misfire tried this with about 30rds every 3rd or 4th round a misfire, The I tried the M-22 in my 1977 model 10/22, 50rds not a hiccup! So as I have a bunch of this ammo I'll check the batch #'s and if I have more of it I'll put it aside for my RAR or the older 10/22 as these two seem to strike it harder I guess?

M-22 is a 40 grain, 1255 FPS black copper plated round nose.

Wow .. that's kind of fast isn't it? I'm use to shooting 1080fps or less for matches. I know that has nothing to do with the issue you're having with the Marlin. I only asked about the hollow point because I have a couple of Marlins that will not load hollow point simply because it's too long compared to round nose. This mainly happens on guns where they have the old style action.

Cool will try to make Stillwater when I'm not doing the County pistol class and the new member orientation at Sara Spa. Fish Creek sounds like a lot fun but I don't think I could fit it in!

Oh yeah whats the start time at Stillwater?
