  • Worked over my Ruger 77/22

I can never just leave things be so I had at it with the 77/22. 20" stainless flutted Green Mountain 10/22 barrel that I machined to fit the 77/22. I shortened the Bentz chamber to the lenght of a Match chamber. Then lengthened the barrel shank to fit, cut back the shoulder and added a 2nd extractor slot(77/22 has two). I refaced the bolt to the minimum SAAMI match headspace. I made a custom hardened pin to tighten up the 2 piece bolt so there is no slop in it. Polished off the target grey finish to reveal the stainless underneath and beaded some parts to give it a two tone appearance. The barrel came with the two tone already so it all looks awesome. Got a Boyds Pro Varmint stock and pillar bedded it. I had to open up the barrel channel for the bull because they only make it for a factory profile barrel. I am really happy how it came out and like the fact that its the only one like it out there!

Now I just need to get it to the range and break in the barrel.
I bought my sons out of state.

I'd like to pick-up another 77/22 to do a heavy barrel build like that myself!! But to find one at a good price, Got mine at a small country gun shop that had it for a couple years for $400.00 about 5 years ago it was a 2000 yr model.

Well I got to shoot it today and must say I'm very pleased with the results. After some barrel break in voodoo I let the barrel lead up a bit and the groups started to shrink. These are 10 round groups with GEMTECH 42 grain subsonic @ 50 yards. I bet it will shoot even better with match ammo. I didn't even bring any because I felt like it would be a waste for breaking in the barrel.
