The Pine Tree Rifle Club rimfire benchrest league starts tonight, for the next 18 weeks (10 best scores count for the league end awards) I shoot in the master sporter class with my Ruger 77/22 with a weaver T-24 scope (Rifle has a Shilen factory contour barrel) The target I shoot is the IBS 50 yard target which has a 1/2 inch 10 ring, I shot my first 250 last year with CCI-SV ammo, which this rifle seems to like as much as some high-end 22 ammo! After a long winter been looking forward to shooting more outside!

Well last night was not a good start to the season! I shot a 223 with 3 X's I think it's the worst I ever shot!! I think that my front rest was a little lose (I Hope!!) Took it apart tonight and tighten it a little, seems better will have to go to the Range one night and see if that was the problem? Till next Monday!!NRA Life Member,NRA Instructor(Rifle/Pistol)RSO

Look out for my neighbors kid Alec. The kid can shoot, his Grandfather, Father and I have been playing around plinking for years, He was actually a little kid at one time, and he loves to shoot, one of those guys that picked it up fast. Do give him a Glock or 1911, he'll have it field stripped before you can so don't take that apart.
We only live a few miles from the club.I must say I love beavers.

Yes he can! Last year, his first shooting in the target rifle class ( IBS rimfire 50 yard target 2 1/4" target with a 1/2" 10 ring) he was 2nd place for the year) this year he had to move to the master target class (1 1/2" target with a 1/4" 10 ring those 22lr holes look so big!!) first night he shot a 249 12 X's! Now he is shooting against many shooters that have been doing this for a long time with Remington 40X's, Anschutz, Copper's and custom 22 target rifles with a CMP Kimber 82 with a Mueller 8-32x44 target scope!! I'm glad I'm shooting in the master sporter class (same IBS rimfire 50 yard taget as the target class) with my Ruger 77/22! Go Alec!!!NRA Life Member,NRA Instructor(Rifle/Pistol)RSO

Well I tighten up the front rest last week! It helped some but it got real windy in the 2nd go-round and I shoot a 233 with 7X's. Better not good enough! So today I went down to the range to shoot nice conditions! Shoots were all over! Took the rifle apart checked the V block, adjusted the trigger a little, put it back together torqued everything! Still shot crappy, Well finished the last 50rd box of CCI SV that this Ruger with a Shilen barrel usually likes (had got 7 boxes earlier this year, shot some of it in my Browning Buckmark in Bullseye) Well I open a brick of CCI SV that I have had for awhile 3/4 years! Well 10 rds, shot 9 in the 10 ring 1 in the 9 ring! Hope it was the ammo? Will find out tomorrow!!NRA Life Member,NRA Instructor(Rifle/Pistol)RSO

Well last Monday the conditions were good, Just a slight breeze and I had another bad night 237 3x's! So yesterday I took off the limb saver barrel tuner, gave the rifle a good cleaning. Tried some Federal 711b ( The 77/22 did not like it at all! So I'll save it for my Buckmark for Bullseye) Cleaned the barrel again, went back to the CCI-SV seemed a lot better? I'll see tonight how I Shoot ??NRA Life Member,NRA Instructor(Rifle/Pistol)RSO

I always clean the barrel when changing ammo brands! Some may have different lubrications that may not mix well or change as you keep adding more of the new ammo? As far as what I think really needed cleaning was the chamber and the bolt! The rifle shoot well for me last night 246 9x's, 2/9's and 1/8 and the 8 I wasn't watching the wind flag, the ribbon was straight out so that shoot may have been better?
As far as what is Benchrest you are sitting with the rifle immobilized front and back( fancy rests, bi-pods, sand bags) as you would to sight in a rifle! Then there are different classes for different type's of rifles we even have a 22 rimefire hand gun class at 50yds and this year a open/pip-sight class! The target I'm shooting in the master sporter class is the IBS 50yd rimfire 4-sighters and 25 record targets one shot each (target size is 2 1/4" with a 1/2" ten ring)This is the same target as the basic target rifle class for heavy barrel rifles. The basic sporter class is the NRA 100yard target 1 sighter 5 target for record 5 shots each 1" 10 ring 1/2"x And then there is the master target class 1 1/2" target with a 1/4" 10 ring, I shot one for fun those holes look so BIG!!
