  • Got sights on my H&R M12 Finally!!!

I bought this rifle approx 2 years ago. It had no sights but someone drilled and tapped the receiver and had some weaver mounts installed for use of a new style scope. I was able to pick it up cheap because of this and that was OK with me since I planned on using this as a scoped gun anyways. Well for the last 2 ish years I shot it with a straight 4x bushnell scope and it proved to be a excellent shooter but I wanted to upgrade. This is when I bought that awful SWFA scope recently. After that fiasco I decided that maybe I should just put it back to all original. I do shoot very well with the aperture sights and was looking at getting another H&R with the irons to go with this one and make a pair. Well after the junky scope decided it was best to just return this one to its original glory.

I did some hunting around and was able to find someone selling a set of Redfield Olympic front and Redfield Palma rear sights. These are the sights that would have come on this rifle and the Palma is a very good sight. Redfield does have a international and olympic rear sight but they are not as good as the palma but will also work on this rifle.

So here she is in all her glory. Only thing left to do is get to the gunsmith and have him flush fill those 4 holes in the receiver. When done you wont even know they are there. I'll still know and I hate extra holes but I think ill survive. Whoever drilled/tapped them knew what he was doing thankfully so getting them filled professionally and having the gun look mint will be cake.

Anyways here she is cause we all know threads are useless without pics!

Here are the 4 little holes I gotta have filled.

Here she is with my Kimber 82G. Also an excellent shooter. I've won a few rounds at the club shoots with her.

IDK. You really should. The thing is a beast and is extremely accurate. It weighs right around 12lbs and is modeled after the win 52. This is a M12 which is just the military version of the 5200.

You can get one anywhere from 400-600 without the sights and 700-800 with the sights. The sights separate will run you 250-325ish.

The triggers and fully adjustable for sear, poundage and overtravel. My trigger is set very light and barely has any travel to it.

Both are in 22lr. The kimber was made in the 80's on contract for the government as a trainer/match rifle. I believe only 20,000ish made. They were sold threw the CMP program up until this last year for like $425 new in the box. Now they are pulling 800ish but I feel still well worth the price. The kimbers weigh in at 10.5lbs average.

The H&R is basically the predecessor to the Kimber. They were also made for the government and are clones of the Winchester 52 series of rifles. These are said to shoot right with those rifles and sometimes better. These weigh in on average at 12lbs.

Both make great benchrest rifles. Also the heavy weight help you steady them shooting offhand.

two nice guns there wildman. like you i hate extra non factory holes but as long as they are there i might leave them, you never know when you might want to go back to a scope. or if when you sell the gun the next guy might like the option. probably a bit of coin to have them filled in as well. what's next for you in the 22 target arena, 52, anschutz, 541t, 40x, ___, ____, ____ ?

It wont cost much. I'll have them filled with screws that fill them flush like a grub screw cut to size. You wont really notice they are there unless looking for them. That what they will be filled and threads protected. In the future if I wish to use them again I can just put the mounts back on.

I already have some really nice 22 target guns. Maybe ill start a thread later and get them out for a family photo. Here is my list of just target guns.

              1. Mossberg 144LSB
              2. Mossberg 144LSA

              4. Schultz & Larsen M77 (Fully Adjustable Trigger)
