  • Am I good?

I picked up some CCI minimag today. The guy perusing the slim selection next to me said I should be good to go with it. I have a Rem 597. Is there any way to know if I CAN'T use it?

It looks like you're just talking about shooting high velocity .22 rimfire ammunition out of a semi-auto .22 rimfire rifle. The muzzle velocity listed by CCI doesn't look that spectacular compared to other rimfire ammunition, so I don't see why it would be a problem.

Edit: I take no responsibility for rifle explosions and any resulting injury or death based on advice provided.

with out getting into the premium target rounds, mini mags are top shelf ammo. very clean burning which is great especially for auto's.

Thanks. I'm just used to shooting standard velocity bulk pack junk for plinking.

The other question I had, did I get screwed on price or is $8/100 "acceptable". Ultimately I don't really care, more a curiosity than anything.

At that price, let's just say that if there was any on the shelf, I would buy it ALL! :-)

I thought bulk packs of 525 were going for a bit under $40, so given the quality of what you got I'd say you did OK.

Yeah. They had CCI 300 packs for $25, which seemed reasonable for CCI (from what I've heard)

My son has shot many many Mini Mags from his 597.

Now if you want that gun to truly shine buy a Volquartsen Target Hammer and Extractor. If you have the factory scope, ditch the rings and buy a tactical mount base and new rings.

I have a cheap scope on it that is destined for the garbage. I'll be looking into the hammer and extractor though. It's currently bone stock except for the scope.

The VQ Target hammer is the Best upgrade you can do to the 597, the trigger pull will be night and day different, the VQ extractor is nicer but not may be needed until many many rounds down range, I got a steal on Ebay on a new in package VQ Target Hammer for 11.00 so I just bought the Extractor too and did them both at once, the gun has been flawless.

MiniMags are solid ammo... Buy with confidence.
