Picked up one of these yesterday, I grabbed a heavy barreled version off gunbroker for 300 bucks. The rifle looks decient the stock leaves a lot to be desired though. There is so much flex in it I cannot imagine it will group very well off a bipod. The heavy barreled version is only available in stainless right now and is very nose heavy. I am going to put a wooden stock on it to take care of the flex issue, already mounted a 4-12x40 nikon prostaff on it so we shall see how it shots. I have 2 cases of ammo on order for it, I am sure I will not see that until the summer, although there is plenty of ammo at Walmart for the thing right now in both 20 and 25 grain loads.

    Ps
Sorry I don't post pictures of my guns, call it a habit, if I don't post pictures you guys can still call me a liar, and that is the way I prefer it.

I had one of the first runs. I had the standard version. Like you said the stock sucks. I ordered a Boyds Stock for it. Turned out the barrel and trigger assembly were off. Would not fit Boyd stock since it was crooked. Savage replaced mine with a new one and I just sold it all. The new stainless and bull barrel ones are suppose to me much better then the older first gens. The rounds do sail.

I would not spend too much because the biggest problem is not the rifle. The rimfire ammo for high velocity cartridges is the problem. It simply doesn't have the consistency of centerfire rounds for the same purpose. Try some ammo before you put more money on the rifle.

Is it the rifle, or the ammo?

How about the Volquartsen? I've always wanted to own one.

That accuracy looks about right. I've been following these since they came out and have not been impressed at all with the accuracy.
They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!

Snowflakes are great!!! You can roll them around into a giant mass and shove a carrot in their ........

The stock leaves a lot to be desired. It is extremely flexible, the skinny barrel version is reportedly has terrible harmonics that throws the round everywhere. I have read reports where people have taken the stock barrel off and replaced it with a 17 caliber Green Mountian barrel and replaced the stock with a laminated Boyd's stock with impressive accuracy results.
The barrel is the reason I went with the heavy barrel version and I have Boyd's laminated stock on order.
Once the stock comes in I will take it out to the range.
I have 1K rounds rounds for it right now with another 2K on order.

Let's get a range report after you try it out.

Again, the rifles are hardly the issue. The problem is the ammo and since one cannot reload you have to use what manufactures produce. The harmonics claims are irrelevant with this type of rounds where there are hardly any torque forces and the tune of the round should produce plenty of accuracy nodes. The main problem as described are the huge deviations in the spreads up to 200fps. Folks who shoot for accuracy want their spreads with differences in the single digits and no more than 20 to 30; fps. So before you waste dollars in equipment test the ammo and see if you find something decent.
you see the issue with high velocity rimfire is that it is very hard to keep consistency between burns and pressures just because the way the ignition primer and loading interacts with the other powders, temperature, etc. However subsonic rounds with sraight walled rimfire can be extremely consistent like the 22lr used in matches.

Well I took it out yesterday, the only scope rings I had were high so I could not get it on target ( ran out of adjustability) at 100 yards. I did get it on paper at 25 and 50 yards. At 25 yards it was about 3 inches high and it put 10 rounds in the same hole, they were easily covered by a dime. At 50 yards the group were a little higher about 8 inches but could still be covered by a nickel. I was shooting the 25 grain ammo. I picked up low scope rings on my way back from the range so I will be getting out to shoot it 100 yards after Christmas.

The heavy barrel stainless B Mag rifle is dressed in a Boyd's laminated stock, EGW one piece scope mount and a Nikon 4-12x40 prostaff scope.

I hope you have better luck with the fit and finish than I did.
