  • CZ 455 Lux

Thinking about buying a new 22LR bolt action and this one has my interest. Anybody have any experience with it? Good/bad, Pros/cons etc. Looking for an accurate plinker with iron sights that will be used initially at 25 yrds (NRA instructor course) and then for my son next year when he's old enough to come to my range. Anything else I should be looking at? Thanks.

IMO there are several good reasons to pickup a Savage MKII for 180-190 dollars....

The trigger is among the best triggers one can buy with any dollars.
They are US made and most popular assuring aftermarket support on anything adn virtually for ever.
They are the among the most accurate rifles in the category even for budget out of the box. Can always get a nice stock upgrade available in beautiful wood finishes.
Alternatively one might choose a heavy barrel. Don't discard the 16.5" with the bull barrel to later upgrade a nice wood stock. Many 22LR loads start to loose velocity
after that lenght so longer barrels are actually worse. The 16" savage is a tack driver specially after a nice stock upgrade that are not that expensive.
There are inexpensive diopter sights aftermarket that are the best type of iron sights one can have like olympic style rifles.
    Magazines are inexpensive and plentiful.
    They are way less money.

Well, appreciate the input Mek and I absolutely trust your opinion about this, but I just bought the CZ 455. I did look up the Savage MKII and couldn't find any in the $180 range, LOL. Any way, I really liked the "look" of the CZ and I got it for a decent price on Gun Broker.

Maybe you looked with the wrong name...

The CZ is a good rifle but aftermarket support and long term might be more tricky. Order a couple of spares while the rifle is still in production like 2 extra extractors and 2 extra firing
pins that are the most common things that go bad and need preventive maintenance over time.
That is why I suggested the savage plus it is possibly the most accurate rifle for little money and with little work.
In the rimfire forum they did several projects wth the budget savage that with a good stock ended up with similar scores as $2000 olympic competition rifles.

I think you will be happy with the CZ however.

Yeah, I was looking at the MKII FVT which is what is in the link that you posted. They are in the $375-$425 range on Gun Broker. Good suggestion on replacement parts, thanks.

I remember the bolt action .22 from camp Russell. Good times in boy scouts.

Bro buy the CZ. I sold all my savages and replaced them with CZ. The CZ is hands down a much better gun then the savage plus the magazines are much better on the CZ.
They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!

Better in what sense? The savage deals with the fluted BBL and with an aftermarket stock upgrade is an amazing gun.
