    Wet tumbling

    I'm hooked. Found a deal awhile back on the Franklin Arsenal rig with SS media, have not looked back. A gallon of hot water, 5# of SS pins, a pinch of Lemishine and a squirt of Dawn. Tumble for an hour or two, dry at 200F on a cookie sheet in the oven for 10 minutes, and I get the cleanest brass I have ever seen, ready for refill....and no dust!










    Those SS pins even get inside those silly little .223 rounds and clean them up very nicely.

    Whey you try sonic cleaning or wet tumbling there is no going back.

    Keep in mind that there is no need to use stainless steel and copper or nickel beads or brass to brass will do the same.
    I have shown the results of cleaning pistol using 22LR cases mixed with some copper sticks from electric cable and there is no difference.
    This alternative is cheaper than stainless and I guess it eases a bit the worry of missing a stainless pin and going through a bore through firing.

    My dry tumblers have no use anymore and occasionally I use for tumbling parts with rust or bad shape using abrasive media but have not tumbled brass for many years now.
    It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

      Tough to pick that copper tumbling media out of the brass with a magnet.

      Stainless pins came with the tumbler so that's what I'm using at the moment. As long as I don't lose any, the initial 5# bag will probably last me a lifetime.

      I like the results from ultrasonic (I have a small ultrasonic tank) but the $$$ for a larger ultrasonic rig is outside of my price range.

        I tried the Hornady Sonic Cleaner, and threw it out. I couldn't find anyone that would take it. Now, it was the small one ($70) ; the one that holds about 10 cases of 30-06, or 20 of 45ACP, at a time. I wanted to try it out before committing $400.

        The timer would max out at X seconds (IIRC) and you needed to go for 2X minutes, requiring your constant presence to reset the timer 7X times (Common Core, cominatcha!). The wet cases required rinsing, then drying. Repeat 4 more times for a 50 round lot.

        The ordeal reminds me of Office Space, to be honest.

        Back to corn cob, and wiping dust from each case. I have destroyed too many sizing dies from NOT wiping.

        I was always intrigued with the steel rods.....but the drying thing...Household 06 would....would....its indescribable what would happen if she found brass in her oven.

          "her oven"?......"her oven"?......WTF? You had better get a few things straight and let her know that it's "our oven" and you'll be drying brass in it if you damn well please.

          (I have a spare room if you need a place to stay after you tell her that)

            Oh no...its her oven...her kitchen..and she is responsible for all that comes with it. It is just simpler that way. She expects nothing of me, but to keep out of HER way.

            I did see that Frankfort is offering a jerky maker re-labelled as a brass dryer...I already have one of those... father's day is coming up.

              Dammit Todd. I've been perfectly fine with the cleanliness of my brass for many years..... until now.... you most likely just cost me a couple hundred $$. At least. Lol.

                It's a little more work drying the brass but it cleans the fvck out of the insides and the primer pockets like dry tumbling could never dream of doing. I just decap everything with a universal decapper, run it through the wet tumbler, and we're good to go. I hand prime everything now so I just yanked the decapping pins out of all my dies and I no longer have to worry about gunking up my dies with dusty brass.

                  Welcome to the "bright side" T. I made the change two years ago and now I don't dread the process. FYI, two tablespoons of dishwashing liquid and two tablespoons of Lemishine.
                  One of our fellow match shooters also adds a tablespoon of liquid wax but I have not done this yet.

                  Next on your list will be the induction annealing machine!

                    Father's Day has arrived...as has my Frankford Arsenal tumbler with steel pins. Its a'tumblin 55 cases of 30-06 right now. Gonna fab up some sorta screen system to catch the pins using the screen from an old storm door (thinking of an old miner sifting pan kinda thingy).
