  • Noob reloading questions

Couple questions I am not sure on.

First I am using dillion 1050. I am trying to set stuff up per video and not sure if I didn't some things right.

First I have the powder measure set up. When I pull handle nothing happens with it. I then read nothing will happen without a case in the station as a safety feature. So I put case in position and still nothing . I don't have any powered in it anyways but not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Secondly I set up swage per video and not sure if its set up right. Does the primer pocket look right?

    Thanks all

The pocket looks fine. I just wonder if the edge is still square from the factory crimp.
I like to trim them with the power station that leaves a 30 degree flare on the edge so the primers start in so much better.
The rest is easy just to make sure the primer is the right depth and also with decent amount of tension and do not fall off.
This is something that happens a lot with soft brass like FC from american eagle that looses primer pocket pressure fast after 5 or 6 reloads. I guess depending
      on how hot one goes.
lapua instead can go up to 50 reloads sometimes primer wise.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

I need to trim all the brass down, its all at or just over 1.760 for 233 so I need to really set up rt 1200 I think to trim it all and it also sizes case so I will have to remove that station when I actually reload so I don't put undue wear on cases if what I read is correct.

Still not sure why the powder measure doesn't move when lever is pulled even with case in station.

I meant trim the primer pockets so it i easier for the primers to come in. Also trim the brass to your OAL.
the powder measure is case activated right? So there is a bushing that should be contacted once the case goes up and that will push the lever.
I mean assuming all the linkages are in place.

There were two brass colored pieces on bottom of powder measure. The linkage with clevis pin has to go between both slots in those pieces. I posted pic in the other tread before taking the powder measure off machine. Believe that linkage activates the powder measure.

I do have the linkage set up right which is more for closing measure after dispensing when your raising handle. I'm thinking it might be what mek was talking about or at least it sounds right lol.

I was shocked to find I blew the primers out of a bunch of cases during a CMP match. I noticed some vertical stringing in my slow fire prone shots, but other than that everything seemed normal. It wasn't until I was going through my brass after the fact that I noticed primers were missing.

Nothing worse than AWOL primers, not a good thing.

This piece wasn't in die for powder measure to work, wish the video talked about it, after mek mentioning it and checking diagram of parts for that station I realized what I needed to do and now that is set up.

FC from the American Eagle ammo is in the soft brass category and it is known to loose primer pocket pressure fast. However the FC from the Lake City plant that might have a couple of dots and also annealed is the same they use in the LC plant and LC Nato loads. Also great in capacity second to some of the WCC and more than some lapua and and in these primer pocket pressure will last a lot longer before it starts spitting out primers. A lot has to do as well with the lack of consistency in the flash holes.
So keep an eye because one of those primers could potentially jam the trigger group and ruin your shooting session.
