Maybe a little catch-all for oddball tips and tricks? Didn't know where to put this, but figured it can get moved if need be.

For those who are metal lathe impaired... Sometimes you need to cut a pin or make a stud from a bolt, or any other case where you need a clean concentric cut from a relatively short piece of material. The easy way? Chuck the material into a 3/8 or 1/2 inch drill and run it up to a decent RPM rate. Be sure it's running concentric. Then take your dremel tool with one of those thin little cutoff wheels, and run it perpendicular to the rotating material. It's best if you can run the dremel wheel against the rotation of the stock, but it's not critical. Dont force it, just let the wheel cut at it's own rate, and you'll be surprised at how quick and clean this can be.

your are right. This is a great way for things that do not need to be that precise. In fact there are plans out there how to make a lathe from scrap metal using
heavy duty drill parts. This will serve for many hobby projects where tight tolerances are not needed.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

Another thing I do, whenever I need to leave the house for any real period of time, I lock up torch heads and cutoff wheels INSIDE the gun safe. If the bad guys are sophisticated enuf to bring their own tools, so be it, but I'm not greasing the skids for kids and dopers.

Good idea. I should try this ...but... I am afraid I would have to leave some rifles out although the tools would be safe! LOL

sounds like you need another safe. Or you need some help clearing out some of the "trash" guns. hahaha
