  • Lyman #55 powder measure

    http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/s...ffle-stand.php

I'm considering one of these and looking for feedback. I've got a Lee powder measure but it's just a cheap plastic thing that's only accurate to +/- 1.5 grains, not good enough for me. I want to be able to crank out some rifle rounds with a reasonably consistent powder charge (+/- .2 grain) without having to hand weigh and trickle every single charge. (I will still hand-measure for match ammo though). I primarily load IMR 4064, which is an extruded powder and notoriously tough to get a consistent charge with in any type of powder measurer.

    What say you internet experts?

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

my guess is that the lyman is a good powder measure, but never owned one. i have the RCBS uniflow just because i went with RCBS years ago. they have a great warranty which they stand behind 100%. the IMR powders are great but tough to crack with certainty for sure. i guess i won't say which is the better measure, both are good probably.

I have RCBS, Redding and hornady and I see no need to buy a Lyman. My buddy has a lyman and it works but you can get more value for less.
I love redding and RCBS dies but to be honest I just got the 2nd hornady thrower and it works like a charm. I use them in the progressive presses with
their system and also in the manual version they are super consistent. so unless you want a redding with the micrometer get an RCBS or a hornady and
be done. These work great with the fine ball powders whereas the LEE gets all jammed up.But lee can do some decent job for beginners with the extruded
      powders like varget and h4895.

Interesting......and seems to be a solution for the problem of consistently metering stick powders: http://quick-measure.com/design1.htm

Most powders are pretty consistent with decent RCBS, Bedding or even the affordable hornady. I have ammo that I reload with the progressive that we can call match ammo based on the results. Spreads on charges show very small differences and speed spreads are many times with difference in the single digits for many shots.
