  • Ultra-Sonic cleaning mishap

I cleaned about 100 brass recently using an internet Vinegar/Salt/Water/Soap solution. It was amazing at getting the brass clean in about 2 cycles (16 mins total). The little unit could only handle about 20-30 pistol brass per batch. I left the cleaner in the unit for about 2 weeks. Yesterday I went down to the basement to a massive vinegar smell, and found the solution dissolved a hole in the pan. So anyone doing this type of cleaning may want to be careful about leaving old solution in the tray.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Not sure why you were having issues with images but I will look into it and went ahead and made your photos show in the post.

      FYI: http://www.harborfreight.com/6-oz-ul...der-91593.html

Works great for me on brass, jewellery, plastic, etc. Do not use on aluminium, magnesium, or blued parts. Way cheaper than the pre-mixed solution RCBS and others sell.

Wow, that sure shows just how powerful an acid vinegar can be.

I still have some lyman turbosonic cleaner. I will be using that next time. I'll have to find larger capacity cleaner as well. The recipe I used was from this video, in case anyone wondered. It worked really well! Too well.

If that solution can eat that fast, is it really safe for ultrasonic use? I mean, wouldn't the ultrasonic cycles themselves speed up that process exponentially while cleaning?

                  I would think so.
