April Practical (Tactical) rifle match at Ontario Rod & Gun

Hope this finds everyone well.

We are having our monthly Rifle match Saturday April 9th with a side match of pistol this time. Just to be clear, you will be shooting two stages of rifle and one stage of pistol. Be prepared for each stage to have a round count of 40.

The match has gone live on Practiscore. Please search upcoming matches for ORGC. You will find "ORGC April 2016 Rifle Match". (https://practiscore.com/upcomingmatches?s=Ontario) Please register and squad yourself. Cost will be $ 20. This is payable day of match to Steve or Ken.

If you are a ORGC Member you are eligible for a discount. We are offering a $ 5.00 coupon to use towards next shoot. Shooters that either arrive at 8 AM and help with set up, or people that stay after and help tear down earn said coupon.

Please squad yourself accordingly. The first squad is for shooters on limited time table. Safety Briefing and walk through at 9:15 AM. This is mandatory. We will go hammer down at 9:30. We will finish by 11:30. Once again, the tempo for this group will be very upbeat and no nonsense.

The second groups Safety Briefing and walk through will be at 11:45. This group is a touch more relaxed and open to more shooters. This is due to being the last group of day.
Expectation is for all competitors to help tape targets between shooters. The only times you are not expected to help is directly before and after your turn to shoot. Always wear you PPE's in the form of eye and ear protection when present at any range. Keep your 'booger hooks" off the trigger between targets. And above all, have a great shoot!

I can't make this as it conflicts with the CMP match but I would encourage anybody that can to do so. This is a relaxed event with some really great peeps at a black rifle-friendly club. I usually shoot my SKS at these matches and some folks have showed up with 10/22's.

BigFlash needs to get out and practice at this one with his SKS so that I'll finally have some competition in the heavy metal class!

sounds awesome! I see on practiscore there are 4 divisions, are my assumptions on the breakdown as follows in the ballpark for this?

Open - anything goes as long as its legal
Tac Optics - carbines with optics (pistol caliber & 5.56?)
Tac limited - carbines with no optics
Heavy Metal - 30 cal's, etc.

are optics allowed in Heavy Metal? Not that i have any on my sks lol, just wondering.
Anyone know what kind of distances these range from?
if i can convince my wife to be gone all day, i'd like to run a 10/22 in the morning and heavy metal in the afternoon

Anything bigger than carbine with optics goes into Open (I think). The Eagles Range is only 50 yards deep and typical shooting distances for these matches are 3-25 yards (which actually make any type of magnifying optics a detriment!). Come on out and have some fun, Chris, Steve, Ken, Jeff, and the rest are a good crew and will make you feel welcome.....tell them that Todd Hughes sent you out. Normally I'd try to shoot the early CMP match and then truck out to ORGC to catch the second rifle match but I have an existing commitment already scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

So what type of shooting is this practical match? run around between cover and blasting away or you want to actually hit and score something?
In the practical matches I have been down south we had targets anywhere from 50 to 800 yards and the objective was to make contact no matter the distance.

IDPA cardboard targets, run around between cover and shoot through windows/around walls. 2 hit on paper for a kill. Like I said, low key fun stuff......not hardcore tactical guy stuff.
