  • Easiest out of state permit to get?

I am thinking about starting to get some out of state pistol permits and was wondering what is the easiest to get? Would it be the PA one? Do I have to go down there or can I mail it too them? Also is it correct that for the Utah you have to get actual training and provide proof?

    Thanks

Am I short stroking or going to fast?

Firs question is where do you plan to go? They're all fairly easy to get in the sense that its just filling out a form. PA was fastest but you have to go there to get it. We went to Scranton and were in and out in 1/2 hour with permit in hand. I've heard other counties do things differently and may mail them. UT needs a UT stamp from UT certified instructor so you need to take class. You could probably get FL on your own with Military background but if you take UT class get FL at same time. NH and ME are by mail. NH is just a simple form. ME requires other proof (training/citizenship). I'd say CT was the most PITA but still easy. They require NRA basic pistol. Be careful with reciprocity laws. PA will accept UT Resident permit but not UT non resident.

I am figuring I would probably like all the states within 2 of NYS for a good start. I have no specific plans for travel but better to have and not need then need and not have.

Thanks for the very helpful info!

Most have 5 year expiration, so if you really don't have plans to drive or go to a state..then in my eyes your just putting yourself under the prying eyes microscope of the FBI and govt for really no reason. With 120$ here 150$ there it adds up, for what?? To do it again in few years. I have the sttates that border NY and FL, I live near CT and i go to PA though. Utah shumuta IMO, waste of loot..by the time anything of use in Utah,it'll be expired..and ain't like this family man is taking road trips across country anymore. Other than that..FED transportation law. For the time in my life i might goto to NH or Montana or Whichever.

          PA no longer mails. Period.
          Even renewals.
FL is easy and will take your DD214 in lieu of class or should I say live fire proof.
UT I took the class. It included FL but that just made forms and prints easy.

PA. Take a drive, grab your permit, pick up some ammo and fireworks, enjoy the fresh air of a free state. When I walked into the Sheriff’s office and told them I was there for a permit, the first thing the desk officer said was........wait for it......."That'll be 20 bucks please". I can't wait to GTF out of this state and move to free America. I took the FL/UT course that RPD offers, along with the PA permit I'm good in 36 states.

Not sure what county in PA grandma is near, but not all PA counties issue non-res permits. For instance, the closest county to me is Pike County (Matamoras). They no longer issue non-res. I went with CG to Scranton (Lackawanna Cty) and contrary to CG, I was in and out in 20 minutes

The first Out of State that I got was PA. So very simple when I got mine. Quick drive to Erie PA, paid my $20 and left. Two days later, I had my permit.

One of the mistakes that I think many people make is going after permits in States that they will never use. Many spend a lot of unneeded money to get as many as possible. There a some that overlap each other; spending additional money that is unnecessary. I have spoken with customers who tell me they are going after this State and this this State and oh, I'm gonna get this one as well. Read up on cross reciprocity prior to spending money that can be used to buy another gun!

You do not need live fire training for Florida.

Your NY Hunters Ed or your basic NY pistol permit class is fine.

I got my ME permit as my first out of state, it wasnt expensive and the paperwork was relatively simple. Then I got CT. The only other state Im really concerned about right now is PA, so I would like an easy permit that covers PA for me.

NH has been by far the easiest. Cheap, fast and requires just a photocopy or your state permit (stupid they just don't accept our permit as is) Its not as encompassing as some of the others that require a class or more work on your part. I had my permit in hand in 3 weeks. They didn't even cash my check until after i had the permit. I only got it because I got out to the Sig Academy and other shooting events and it makes travreling

Get NH then you're covered PA NY CT VT NH and ME. Easy process by mail. I think it was $100 for 5 years.

EDIT - this is a specific response to Celt. NH gives you PA (as far as I know do your own homework). It does not give you NY, CT or ME.
