No. If it's a fixed magazine it can have any evil feature you want.
Does this mean you'll be looking to get some range time in the not so distant future?

Plenty of GCL members who could get you into the rifle range when you're ready.

I could be completely wrong on this, but I always thought that it only had to be permanently attached if the muzzle device was being used to bring total barrel length up to the required minimum of 16". So using a 14.5" barrel with a 1.5" comp would require pin and weld for NFA compliance, but a barrel that is 16" or up can be left as is.
it's just an evil feature in the safe act, which you don't need to concern yourself with when you are fixed mag camper.
also fyi, the safe act doesn't allow a threaded barrel on pistols . (per 265.00 22C.v)Last edited by big flash; 11-09-2016, 01:30 PM.

It's a bit confusing. I was a little surprised when my father brought home his Ruger precision rifle with a threaded barrel because I thought that wasn't allowed in New Yorkistan.

if the barrel is below 16" a permanent extension is needed unless one can legaly operate a SBR configuration or has a pistol license of it but then no stock allowed w/o SBR license.
The permanent method is not clear but normally it means pin and welded with threads or simply press fit with blind pins.
In any case is not something easily reversible by unscrewing or torqueing down that extension. I will require tools and/or machinery.
In NYS a compliant rifle must not have an open threaded muzzle or attachment if it is auto loading and has a detachable mag. In this case a thread cap or sleeve needs to be pinned
or welded. also muzzle device is not allowed even in the absence of threads like press fitted. Ported barrels seem to be ok.
Bolt actions, lever actions, pump actions, lever release, break open actions are all excluded from the threads or pistol grip cosmetic limitations since they are not classified by NYS as so called assault guns. Same with autoloaders that do not have a detachable magazine, they are excluded from the AW BS classification.Last edited by Meketrefe; 11-09-2016, 01:48 PM.It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance
