Ruger Gunsite Scout 308? and a little piss Off at LGS?

Hello Everyone,

I want to know what every thoughts are on the Ruger Gunsite Scout 308 or any of you own one?

I have a Browning A Bolt 308 with a extra magazine and I am serously thinking of trading it in with another rifle for the Ruger Gunsite Scout 308 and wanted to see if you guys think the Scout is worth trading for.

I have handle the Scout only once at the LGS and I do like it but I not sure if it is worth the price tag of $1,000.00.

I think the worse part is my Browning cost me just a little over $800.00 and only have 5 rounds through it and that was just to sight it in at 100 yards which is dead accurate using Remington Core Lokt 308 at that distance..

I am sure the LGS will not even give close to what I paid for it, I willing to bet they would only give me $500 to maybe $550 if I am lucky,why is when you buy any type of gun especially if it has never been fired or has less then 10 rounds through it they always seem to want to screw the costumer,I can understand sometimes they need to make money but why would you sell them the gun you bought from them for half of what you actually paid for especially if it has never been fired..

So If I can not get at least $650 or more for it I will not trade my Browning or any other Rifle for the Scout,I would be better off keeping the Browning as I know it is a excellent rifle especially for thos who hunt..

not worthy no matter how you look at it. The Browning is many times better rifle in several ways. Action, 3 lug bolt system, trigger, etc....
Give it some thinking to see if you need a scout or it is more the urge to keep up with the trend of overpriced fashion.
A savage hog hunter with an AI magazine makes a better scout whan the gunsite. More accurate, more balanced and more popular action
and the ai bottom metal wiil also use the AI mags just like the gunsite.
So no the ruger is not worth the price tag.

Hey Clarence, I might be wrong, but my interpretation of Mek's comment is not that the Scout isn't worth buying, but just not worth trading in your Browning for probably 50 cents on the dollar to get it. If you had the extra cash and wanted a new rifle the Scout could be a consideration, but not as a trade in.

Not worth trading in and not worth buying. These days no gun for that price with parkerized finishing and laminated wood stock is worth that price. Not even half that price.
Again if one wants a scout the savage hog hunter and look no further. Find a quick scope with regular mount or cantilever forward and if you want add a bottom metal
for the accuracy international magazines like the scout and you got a rifle a lot better, more accurate and while the sintetic stock is not ideal it is much better for the
outdoors / scout purpose and will serve one well. In the end you will have a gun with a huge aftermarket support, plenty of calibers to easily convert to if you want,
great stocks later on and cheaper than the overpriced ruger gunsite.

Add $100 for the bottom plate and $40 for a polymer magazine and a mount for your favorite scope if you want one...

Also I am sure your Abolt will make an awesome "quick" rifle and also can be rebarreled if you want. And remember that mounting the scope in the barrel is not needed nor wanted. It is a passing fashion and nothing else.

Thanks Guys,I am just going to keep my Browning as I know it is worth a lot more even as a straight out sale and not a trade in..

No prob. I am trying to be practical. I think the savage is hard to beat right now in out of the box value no matter what. All one needs for a time tested, battle tested action and rifle on a value the working man can afford. I am a hardcore remington 700 but you have to spend a lot more to get the return you get from some of these savage out of the box deals.

For scope one can go with a rapid reticle for a rapid rifle. Vortex and Burris make great ones that work with regular mounts or forward cantilever if you need more eye relief.

Be practical, keep it simple. Simple is good.
