  • Another one of those "illegal assault weapons"...

    Today was a good day!

I got a senior citizen discount at Wendys!

I squirrel-proofed the feeders, so no more squirrel ass-slapping!

I picked up my new rifle today!

A little back story first. I went to Florida back in April to visit my parents, and I took one day to check out the gun shops down there. Ahhhh..... the smell of freedom! There happened to be a particular rifle on the rack there that I wanted, but of course, could not have. I had no legal way to take it home, of course. So I kind of put it out of my mind, convincing myself it was probably for the best.

Fast forward to last week. I found the exact thing I needed to make it possible to bring that rifle home in the manner of my choosing, and so I took it as a sign that I was meant to have the rifle I fondled in Florida. Yes it shoots 5.45x 39, nicknamed the "Poison Bullet", for it's tendency to tumble when it hits flesh, and cause severe wounds in the process.

    So here it is...

Yes, I found a spare stock set for this 5.45x39 VEPR. A pretty rare item compared to the 7.62x54r/.308 stock sets which are plentiful. I've upgraded the filled in thumbhole with a piece of leather on each side to cover up the JB Weld. It's a definite improvement in the looks department, imho.

One of these days, I'll have to take a family photo with it's big brother, the VEPR in 54r.

    FUAC!

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

          Ahhh, a very good question

And the reason why is that I didn't want to bugger up the one and only butt stock for that rifle. I am a bit of a preservationist when it comes to firearms. Once I had a spare, it's fair game!

Unless you mean your question as to the bigger legal picture, and then the answer to that is the SAFE Act and federal firearms laws. Of course you know that I am a LAW-ABIDING gun-owning citizen.

For you wood workers and fabricators out there. Hou about the addition of a thmb rest like on a set of Herters target grips for a pistol. They would be on the hand side but certainly more comfortable than the spur type grip
I must say I love beavers.

This was actually suggested to me the other day. I'm not sure what that would look like. Got a pic?
