New .50 AR Platform

Looks like it uses .50 projectiles fired from necked up .308 cases in a modified AR10/SR25 platform.

According to Beck Defene’s Rob Carson, the Beck 510 offers, “.50 caliber capability in an AR10 platform, subsonically out to 300 yards and supersonically out to 600 yards, in an under 13 pound platform, including optics and suppressor.”

Looks like the goal was to be able to utilize the existing assortment of .50 BMG projectiles in a lighter platform.

Are .50 BMG projectiles illegal even if they're fired from a different case? I can't remember if the specific legaleze outlaws the the cartridge or the bullet.

I honestly have no clue. My only experience with .50 was my brother's S&W revolver. Two rounds was enough for me, lmao!

I would think it's legal depending on the evil featured gun your loading with the ammo but IANAL.

??? There are no laws banning 50 caliber in NYS that I am aware of. There were proposals many times but nothing passed to my knowledge.

IMHO this caliber is close to useless. 50 caliber is hardly the best choice for a rifle anyway.

Those bullets will not behave well at those speeds. Effective range is dictated by the limits imposed by the bullet design to assure proper mechanical activation upon impact. I am sure one could do something with them but in many situations they are going to be a waste. There is nothing that this can do that a 358-284 or a 375-284 even in short version cannot do and do
a lot better anyway. Actually for a rifle to be reasonably managed by a human (not a gunner turret or 2 man served rifle ) there is nothing that is going to do a better job above the 358 and 375 calibers.
There are some good bullets in the 416 caliber but those also need BMG cases offspring and capacities (ie: 416 barrett) and massive heavy actions while with 338, 358 and 375 do more with less and regular magnums and super-magnums and can even do great in shorter caes and short actions like the AR10.
This like the Beowulf stunt is to impress the internet crowd and a few others who are easily impressed by bore size and grain figures but do not really understand ballistics.
But I guess there is always a customer who "needs" a Humvee to go grocery shopping.

lol. that is a good example and that is a tiny case. Imagine a 284 case in the AR10.... in the 35 and 375 you have bullets in the 250 to 350gr that will take down anything walking on this planet
and probably a whale or two, less mass than the 50cal but much better ballistics so in the end you get much better terminal effect.
And this we do not have to mess with the bolt or anything or we could look into the WSM as donor. Only the magazines might need the front ribs rebated like in the pmags. very simple.
