  • Optics for cross dominant eye - recommendation needed

Was at range today with a small group including my wife. She is more of a pistol person and is right handed but left eye dominant. Right eye has some weakness so left does all the hard work. Had her pick up a rifle with a red dot and she just couldn't get her head in position behind the scope to see the red dot unless she moved stock in towards center of chest. Obviously she cant operate a long gun this way.

There has to be an option that would work for her so I'm looking for any experience you folks may have with other optics types or solutions. Here's what I have come up with so far:
    1) teach her to shoot left handed. She's not interested in this - not comfortable for her at all.
    2) put an optic in more of a scout mount position (ie further away from face toward midpoint of rifle) to reduce the angle between eye and scope. Maybe a reflex type vs a red dot?
    3) Use a 45 degree mount and put red dot more in front of her left eye. Unsure how this would impact accuracy as now dealing with something not just above bore axis but to side as well.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Simple solution, place a single layer of Scotch tape across the top half of the lens of her shooting glasses. Make certain she keeps her left eye open and is looking into the tape when she has correct cheek weld.
The bottom half of lens is left unobstructed so the she can see normally

Thanks LT but I'm not sure I understand. If I read correctly this would block the vision in her left eye so that her right would see the dot? If that's where you are going thank you but it will not work for her. While a beautiful color brown her right eye (matching he left of course ) has very weak vision. A problem that could have been corrected as a child had it been diagnosed. Left eye needs to drive.
